“We all make mistakes, have struggled, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes. You are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.”- Steve Maraboli.

At the beginning of your writing career, most of the time you don't know where to start? Your career of becoming a writer will be full of difficulties. Newbie writers are not aware of the mistakes they make. Sometimes senior writers also make errors, and typing mistakes.

When writers have written their first rough draft, they look for macro editing mistakes. For instance, how is the story flow? Is the tone of the story relevant? Does the topic relate to the audience? After checking these mistakes, writers will consider mini mistakes for micro-editing.

Writing is a skill and craft that needs more practice to be perfect. When you are a new writer, you need more time to become a good writer. You need to know the basics of writing. When you develop an interest in writing habits, your writing will improve by leaps and bounds.

I have divided these writing mistakes into 7 points. Let's have a look at the top 7 mistakes 80% of newbie writers can make.

1. A Boring Introduction

The introduction is the most important part of your writing. It should be interesting and to the point. Often, new writers start the article with a long description. When you write, remember you are writing for your audience. You are not writing to get a degree or impress someone you met the other day. The key is to write, again and again.

2. Unnecessary Description

Wordiness is the most common mistake newbie writers make, and it's quite disturbing for readers. Using more words doesn't make your writing perfect. For instance, there is a convenient little store near to my home that sells all the necessities I need to buy next week. Or you can also say the corner store sells me almost everything I need. One common cause is a grammatical expletive. If a sentence starts from there is, there are, and it will be.

3. Not using an own point of view

When you write, you need your point of view. Mixing points of view are the most common mistakes beginners make. You should start with three basic points of view: first, second, and third person. For instance, for a biography, you will use the first person: I, me, and my. For an advice article, you will use the second person: You, and your. For a short story, the third person is most common: He, she, it, and they.

4. Lack of research on Topic

You will read many topics in the beginning, but you can't be an expert. Thinking that you know everything is not 100% correct. Not researching enough is the easiest mistake new writers make. Whether you include facts, references, quotes, or stats, you must do your research carefully. Don't rely too much on your memory.

5. More use of Passive voice

More senior writers will recommend you avoid passive voice. Sometimes, the passive voice we can use in science articles. 90% of writers use an active voice in their articles. The passive voice doesn't say who did what? For instance, they decided, they would postpone the wedding. We can also say that the bride and groom postpone the wedding. It is easy to change a passive voice to an active one. When writing becomes your habit, your writing will become more interesting.

6. Editing during Writing

Becoming a writer and an editor will slow you down. It will also disturb your flow of thoughts and ideas. Don't worry about grammar when you are writing. Write, write, and just write. You should edit a few hours after you finished writing or the next day. In this way, you will notice more mistakes with a fresh mind.

7. Missing Proofreading

Last but not the least, avoiding proofreading is the most common mistake new writers make. Publish no document without proofreading, or don't send it to a client without proofreading. There are many tools for grammar checking. Be sure to use these tools carefully, because these tools are automatic, and they will confuse you about mistakes.

Final words:

Like other skills, the more you learn, the better you will become. If you note these important mistakes, you will improve quickly. When these changes become a habit, they will become a part of your memory. Writing is a challenging craft, and it is also rewarding. For every writer, for even seniors learning constantly from mistakes is very important.
