There are things in life that can make me sad. I hope to share my perspective with you about these three things I encountered.

1. Divorce in a marriage

I felt so sorry when someone told me their marriage did not work out. If I also know the other partner, I felt even sadder.

I knew the marriage relationship had started with a strong bond of love and romance. However, over the years, the couple could not maintain that loving relationship and as weeks and months passed, the relationship became a thorn in the flesh.

There are so many reasons that can cause a relationship to drift apart. Careers, priorities and lifestyle choices could be some of the causes.

There is no such thing as a status quo in relationships. Either it gets better, or it gets worse. When trust is gone, nothing seems to be able to patch up the relationship.

2. Death of a loved one

Life is unpredictable because disease or fatal accidents are no respecter of man. Sometimes, the shocking thing is that a seemingly healthy person can suddenly become ill. A common disease could be cancer. It has taken the lives of some of the friends that I knew.

It happens without much warning, and it seems like a losing battle when the person is treating the illness. The immune system that protects a person from diseases is reduced to nothing, letting the cancer cells grow and spread from one part of the body to another.

When death occurs untimely, it brings so much grief to the family members, and I am helpless to do anything except pray and comfort them.

3. Loss of money to a scam

Humans are naturally greedy, and we are attracted by schemes that can bring us big profits without verifying whether they are a scam.

There are all sorts of creative plots that people get scammed these days, from love scams to investment scams.

When I learnt of people who lost their hard-earned savings through a scam, I felt sad for them. They would have learnt a lesson, but it had cost them so much of a loss.

With regards to the marriage relationship

To build a good marriage relationship, a couple must spend time communicating and doing things together. To discover and re-discover each other over the years through everyday activities.

Couples need to find common interests. Many couples already know what they would like - for example, their hobbies, favourite food or places they want to visit. If couples can accommodate one another to do those things, I am sure the relationship will become stronger instead of drifting away from one another.

Unfortunately, some couples cannot find enough time for each other, and arguments occur with every conversation. It gets worse over time, and finally, things go very wrong to the extent of a divorce.

Concerning the death of a loved one

Everyone can try to be careful about accidents, taking precautions not to be hurried. Often accidents happen when we tend to rush because we become less defensive. Driving or walking safely on the roads will be of help, observing traffic rules.

As for illnesses, we can try our best to eat less chemically processed foods and sleep well. Having enough rest will help our body cells to regenerate well and lessen the risk of an illness.

Also, laughing more often and diffusing stress or tension in our lives is good. Doing all these will help us live healthier lives and reduce the incidence of dying early.

Concerning scams

Everyone can take precautions not to believe schemes that appear too promising. We should guard ourselves when we receive unknown calls.

If we use our rational minds and not our emotions to deal with unchecked opportunities, we can reduce the chances of being scammed.

In conclusion

These things that I describe happen daily to different individuals around the world. I cannot help in any way to prevent them from happening.

As sad as it sounds, they are just a part of life.
