Don’t Let Anything Stop You

We are currently living in some difficult times with covid-19 entering all our lives and interruping our normal daily routine, and over the past few months we have had to create new routines to adapt to our circumstances. Majority gyms have been closed leaving us to find other alternatives to stay active and fit. If your life is anything like mine, that may be a difficult task with trying to balance a full time job working over 60 hours a week, being a parent as well, and also being in a relationship. People would ask where do you find the time to do anything else with the little time you have in between that. It’s simple you make the time for it. There is an old saying that goes “people make time for the things that they really want to do”. That old saying is true. If you are really passionate about doing something you will find the time in your busy schedule for it and that includes being active!

I learned from being in the United States Army that you don’t need fancy equipment to stay physically fit. The world is your gym you just got to find your workout stations within it. At work my job require me to transport people back and forth through the facility for the majority of the day. I walk on the average at work 3 to 4 miles daily escorting people back and forth to different areas. I can get on the weight scale and shed 5 to 7 pounds by that same evening. So I stay pretty active at work and fortunate that I am not stuck behind a desk my entire workday. I even managed to do some set of push-ups while I have some idle time to myself.

Since the gyms where I live at haven’t opened up yet, I have to watch what I am putting in my body since I cannot just hop on a treadmill and burn the calories off. So I have been watching what I eat and been controlling my portion size when I do eat something. I‘m normally at work by breakfast time so I bring some fruit to eat while I’m at work ( apple, oranges, etc) to hold my appetite since I normally don’t begin to get hungry until about 10 am anyway. I drink or eat a meal replacement for lunch and have a decent dinner unless I get off late then I choose to have something light such as fruit or another meal replacement.

Once I get home after taking my dog out for a walk and greeting my family I immediately do a quick workout that normally last between 30 minutes to an hour, using different workout apps on my phone. I may use an app that focus on push ups one day and use another app to focus on sit-ups the next. If I did not do a lot of walking at work, I will come home and go for a walk in my neighborhood for an hour or so.

With the pandemic going on I have been spending more time with my family doing activities such as playing with my kids, playing the Nintendo Wii to try to keep them active and trying to break a sweat in the process. The pandemic have made me think outside the box for ideas of how to keep me and my family active until the workout gyms begin to open back up. The pandemic doesn’t has to put your life on pause. You will be surprise what some activities that we do are really beneficial to us health wise. A simple swim in the pool is not only fun and refreshing it also works on cardio and leg strength. So what are we waiting for? Lets get out here and have some fun!
