The Mind

Consciousness

Is consciousness different from the mind? Yes. The mind is an organ inside our body that helps us think and it has other jobs like telling you when you’re afraid sending signals to your nervous system. Consciousness is something else. Consciousness is beyond the mind. It is beyond thought.

Consciousness is very difficult to describe. As a matter of fact I don’t think it can be expressed in words it has to be experienced.

How can one experience conciousness? Well there are many ways to experience consciousness and if you are connected to your heart then you are most likely a conscious being. We all are conscious beings the only difference is that some people listen to their inner guidance (that little voice inside that whispers what’s the right thing to do). Some are so blind and deaf that they don’t understand it.

For me love is consciousness. Oneness is another word I would use to describe consiousnesss. Even the word unity comes to mind.

Consciousness isn’t about religion. It’s about living in love. Learning to love oneself and others all the same. Letting go of the ego and paying attention to our hearts. That’s being conscious.

The mind is there for the body mostly. Our thoughts if not trained can turn a good human into a disaster or unconscious human being. That’s why pranayama and meditation are so important. The body gets sick and we go to the doctor and take medication to treat the sickness. What if we treat the sickness before it appears? Almost all the diseases that affect us humans began with a thought.

We forget that there is a subconscious mind and that every time that we blink an eye we are thinking 1000 thoughts. Only 1 of the 1000 we actually see. The other 999 go to the subconcious mind. This is the reason why the subconscious mind needs cleaning. When we have all those thoughts the mind is not still and gets sick. Then the sickness develops in the body somewhere as a signal for us to pay attention to that area. Our bodies tell us so many things all the time. We have to pay close attention to the messages. All the diseases have an emotional nature to it. A headache can mean so many thoughts and an upset stomach can mean that there is a lot of anger that needs to be released. We need to listen and be still. Stillness speaks.

I’ve heard from yogis that what we think then we say it. After we say it then it can become a habit. Habits create our lives. During meditations we learn to listen to our thoughts as well. Some thoughts may not be very good but in time the thoughts are less and better. One should do pranayama and meditate every day. It is something that needs to be done. It’s like eating and drinking water. It’s essential to clean the mind. What will happen with a clean mind? Besides gaining superpowers and psyquic habilities, the most important thing is peace and contentment.

It can be very difficult at first to get used to meditating but this is the only way that we know of to gain enlightenment. It’s actually very simple to do. Amma Sri Karunamayi says: “Just sit down and close your eyes.”

Very wise words of Amma always. Amma meditated for years in the jungle in India. She is an avatar or enlightened being. She speaks great teachings and they all mostly come down to love. Amma is full of love. That is what an enlightened being is. Love.
