This year I wanted to be sure that I did something good with my life. Something that I loved and something that would help me to relax. Something that would create an uplifting experience in me. I also wanted to get ahead with my writing in a way that would relax my mind. So, I have put positive relaxation writing at the top of my list where resolutions are concerned.

There are always other resolutions but this year I needed a writing positivity in my life that would relax me, so I made it a priority. My other resolutions are losing weight and being healthy for my diabetes (I am a type 2 diabetic), and getting up earlier every morning to do my work. I think these are all good for me, but being positive with my writing life and my relaxation is what I will focus on for this year's resolution.

I think I have already made a solid start with my positive writing relaxation because at present I am in the middle of studying for a BA Degree with honors in the Arts and Humanities with the Open University. One of my specialisms is Creative Writing. A positive start I believe which has helped me to feel relaxed by being positive about what I want to do.

Last year, I finished year two of this degree along with English Literature, and this year, (my third year), I am studying Advanced Creative Writing. So, because the course is for four years, I will have to pick one more course from the arts and humanities section to complete my BA degree with honors. I will pick my last course for this degree this year.

Studying Advanced Creative Writing means I have been writing in ways I did not expect to. If you want to write more then take on a Creative Writing course because it will help you to promote yourself and your writing; making it incredibly better. Invest your time in a course like this and you will not regret it. My writing has improved so much from what I have been told. So, this year, I am looking forward to getting the highest result in my Advanced Creative Writing course for my degree because I have perfected a form of writer's magical relaxation which has taught me to be positive and relaxed.

Learning this magical writing technique is a form of writing in a journal every morning before getting up to have coffee or breakfast. This is what I have been taught to do in last year's creative writing course. I have chosen to do this every morning without fail for my new year's resolution. I have started already. I wake up each morning and next to my bed is a bright-colored hardback journal that I pick up to write in before getting out of bed to make coffee or breakfast. I write anything in it that comes to my mind or whatever is in my mind at that moment in time. Whatever I am thinking it goes in my journal and that's whether I want to write about my upcoming day or about a dream I had during the night. Write anything that is in your mind. This helps me to be positive for the future. It clears my mind and sets me free for whatever I have to do for the rest of that day. This technique was taught to me during my creative writing course. I was introduced to a book titled Becoming a Writer by Dorothea Brande. Reading this book has changed my life along with studying creative writing. In the book, Dorothea Brande talks about getting up in the morning and writing in a journal before having coffee. Her words are: "Before you engage with the day," and “By doing these exercises, you have made yourself into a good instrument for the use of your own genius. You are flexible and sturdy, like a good tool. You know what it feels like to work as an artist.” By Dorothea Brande!

Since starting my course, I have been learning to write in all kinds of ways from writing fictional short stories to now writing film scripts, radio plays, and plays for the theatre. So far, I am enjoying learning to write film scripts and I have listened to lots of radio plays because this has also interested me. To be honest, I have just finished a film script which was an adaptation of a short story I wrote. I will use all of this learning to further my career in writing and getting published. Perhaps, I will send something to the BBC or Netflix this year. Who knows what will happen but one thing I do know, and that is, creative writing courses can push you on to further yourself and if I hadn't done it I wouldn't have learned about Dorothea Brande's book which was published in 1934 in New York.

What I have learned from this magical writing technique is that it can relax your writing and yourself. So far, I have felt freer and positivity has grown within me.

Studying creative writing can also help you to be positive about your writing because you work with a group of other students who want to write too. They all want to get ahead in their writing so everyone helps each other in getting there. All of us are in it together and that is something to look forward to plus you get to meet new friends who love writing too.

So if you want to be a better writer then take on a creative writing course or go to a writer's group or book a writer's retreat. My new year's resolution is to wake up each morning and write in my journal before doing anything else. I will harness my writer's magic through an unconscious mind that Dorothea Brande teaches in her book.

Also, I believe if you want to get ahead this sort of technique can have a profound effect on your positive life and it can relax your mind at the same time. So, from the 1st January 2022, I have written magically in my journal each morning whilst my unconscious self is still not awake fully. I set my alarm and wake up at least half an hour earlier than usual. I have written some unusual things too. Things that were unbelievably weird along with unusual dreams. Perhaps, psychic dreams too, or at least they seem to be because let's face it, you are in an unconscious state when you first open your eyes. This is when you should start writing in your journal.

So, here's to writing magically. Hopefully, it will help me get a top mark in my Advanced Creative Writing course, and plus, get published in whatever kind of writing I choose to do in the future because my unconscious mind might magically write a winning piece early one morning!
