"Being in a positive state of mind is more important than you might think as the mind cannot be creative in a negative state. New ideas, thoughts and inspiration will only take place when the mind is positive." - Joe Hinchliffe

We can't hide from the fact there are a lot of negatives in life. Living in a day and age where life is fast paced, stressful, demanding, challenging, and pressuring, with constant deadlines and commitments to meet, compounded by all the tragic and adverse events and circumstances that take place in our life, it's easy to be drawn in by all of these things. Our mind becomes easily sidetracked by all this negativity, pressure, and adversity, that we completely lose sight of the fact there are also so many positives to life also. Many people actually get so caught up in the negativity, and in their adverse circumstances, that they develop the bad habit of only ever focusing on the negatives in life. They cannot identify any positives for themselves, even though, the real truth is, there are a significant number of positives. I think it's because we set ourselves expectations in life. We envision how our life could and should be, and when it doesn't go to plan, which is usually always, then we become agitated and frustrated. We become like an infant being denied of a chocolate bar, as we carry on, we whinge, we complain, and we sook. Life isn't all lollipops and rainbows though. There are going to be adverse times, and moments that will trigger emotions of sadness, pain, hurt, suffering, and hardship within us. It's inevitable! Just because we are being challenged and tested, doesn't mean we have to focus our attention on these adversities. By all means, we should have an awareness of them, and be working on resolving any issues that we have the ability and control to fix, but we don't have to allow our mind to be overwhelmed and solely focused on it. What we need to be doing is focusing our attention on things that bring us happiness, joy, satisfaction, hope, and fulfilment.

Okay, so what's the secret? We always hear of people telling us that we need to think positive, and they make it sound like it's a piece of cake to do so. How can we think positively when our world is crumbling around us, and we are being swamped by adversity and suffering? One thing is for sure, thinking positively in such situations and circumstances is definitely not easy. On the other hand, it can be done. At the end of the day, who's in control over your mindset? It's you, of course! There are certain circumstances, situations, and events we can control, and then there are some we can't control, but no matter whether we can or can't control them, we can definitely control our mindset. This all comes back to choice. We can allow these circumstances, situations, and events to affect us, and succumb to transitioning into a negative mindset, or we can accept them, seek to overcome them, and yet maintain focus on something that brings us happiness, joy, hope, satisfaction, and fulfillment. It's one of the reasons why goal setting is so important in life. When we are striving to achieve something we so desperately desire to achieve, we can fasten our mindset into focusing on that. The success and accomplishment we chase inspires us, it motivates us, it drives us, and it gives us purpose. These are all positive attitudes. Then there is gratitude. Rather than constantly focusing on all that we don't have in life, and all that is going wrong, there's nothing stopping us from looking around and acknowledging all the privileges, blessings, and even wonderful people we have in our life. Most probably, it's all the things and people that we take for granted every day, because we have become accustomed to them, we now expect them to be there each and every day for us. Many people around the world don't have these blessings, privileges, and people, yet we always seem to overlook that fact. Our car may be getting old, but we still have a car. Our bathroom may not be fancy, but we still have the blessing of a shower and hot clean water. Our bank account may not be overflowing with money, yet we have enough that allows us to buy fresh and healthy food each week.

Positive thinking is a choice! Like anything though, positive thinking becomes easier the more we practice it. Each time we find ourselves facing adversity and times of trial, we need to check ourselves before falling into a state of anger, frustration, and pain. We just need to revert our mindset back onto positive things, such as our goals and gratitude. Just keep practicing this over and over, day in day out, and before long, it becomes habit. This mental strengthening helps build our resistance to negativity, whilst greatly improving our attitude and behaviour. Positive thinking is so powerful because it determines results in our life, and it helps bring out the best version of ourselves. It helps us find peace and happiness within, rather than feeling that constant darkness of misery, depression, and disappointment. Below are ten quotes to remind you of the power of positive thinking, and how important it should be to you.
