What makes us human

We are human. It is of never-ending importance to remember that. But what does it mean to be human? Is it a deep desire to create a legacy? To have offspring? To have a long-lasting impact on the life of others? The answer is, who knows. For millennia, individuals have tried to create a sense of what being a human truly entails and a division has been made between our conscious, subconscious, spirit, body, etc. But in reality, is it not arguable that these same characterizations have led us to being even less in touch with what being a human really is? Aspects being overlooked include; passion, drive, ferocity, hunger. In everyday life, you do not eat a hamburger and think about how your subconscious mind had some influence in the decision. You do not take thought to how the chemicals in your brain are being exerted, when you are falling in love with someone. If you did this, would it positively shape your actions, or would it take the 'fun' out of it? That is for each of us to explore. Nevertheless, thinking about these issues in the sphere of societal expectations can lead to some detrimental outcomes. Why? Because overthinking always has the potential to hurt you, and others.

There are certain things everyone deals with. Most of the time, in a continuous cycle of self-doubt and much needed encouragement. Just like me, everyone struggles with feelings of doubting their worthiness. Be it because of a specific circumstance in your present life or a too long prolonged lack of constant diversity. When one deals with having a sense of purpose or simply having a sense of clarity as to what it is you desire and expect from life, uncertainty can be heartbreaking. And why is that? Sometimes it can relate to expectations placed on you by others. Other times, it is your own belief system that burdens you into thinking you should know the answers. Regardless, you must remain centered. A lot of people these days follow whatever they believe will lead to the best outcome for them. However, placing your dependence on this can only lead to an even further lack of self-worth perception in the future. Why? Because these people realize their achievements have not been attained by use of their own merits. More so, they become aware they have disregarded the passion present within themselves to truly pursue what they wanted from life.

Remember, staying true to your emotions and values is what makes you, you. Even where we cannot seem to reach something close to a conclusion as to what it is we want from life, in the end, this is what makes us human. Question yourself, question others. But do not ever think that because you do not have everything figured out, you are less valuable than anybody else. Uncertainty comes with change. Change comes with uncertainty. So, at the end of the day, what matters is that this uncertainty leads to the change needed to stay alive and moving. But there is no need for discouragement because even the smallest action or passing thought can make a difference. We have to stay hopeful things will get better because if we didn't have hope, we wouldn't be human. Even though I too struggle to stay afloat and create a clear picture of what I would like from life, I sit here with hope that someone in a similar situation will read this and reflect on what is important. That they perhaps feel what I feel and understand nobody is alone. Because in the end, we are all human.
