Political rivalry, COVID-19, and lock downs across the United States and around the world have captivated the headlines. Protests have transitioned into violent riots, leaving major cities devastated with destruction and many lives lost. The rights of police officers everywhere are under direct question and many cities are threatening to defund the men and women in Black and blue. The media neglects to share how every day citizens are feeling under the tactics of released fear and the lack of respect shown to law and order in this country. Many individuals have not been able to return to work or their businesses. Depression is plaguing many people of all ages throughout the world, and why shouldn't it be? Only someone who suffers from depression knows how another person with it feels. You need to know that you are not alone out there.

I find myself stuck! My mind is overwhelmed with information that I question fact or fiction. I can't seem to concentrate or focus on simple tasks. Restful sleep is non-existent and days seem to transition so quickly that remembering what day it is has become impossible. I stare out the window lost in finding ways to be productive. Exploring the backyard seems to alter the realm of reality. Although I see green trees, blue sky, and peaceful rolling hills, I know it is not that way everywhere. Depression overwhelms the soul leaving me feeling as though my feet are stuck in the mud. With every step made, the mud is the symbol of resistance, causing the hesitance in moving forward during difficult times. Thoughts run rampant and out of control in my mind. Sadness fills voids that force me to stay in bed. It is a dark, lonely place that I cannot control. I am unmotivated and unenergized, but it is as if the universe is spinning grounding me from journeying on. I am indecisive, with commitment issues and hide at home for days and days at a time. In writing this I have taken a stand against depression. Its time to realize that we are responsible for our own health and happiness.

I have realized that my purpose is to help others. It’s time to stop being depressed and to stand up and address the life that is desired for yourself. Over thinking is over rated. Stop questioning everything and just do it. If you don’t know how to accomplish something, do the research to find out the steps, and go for it. Depression has a weakness, although, for some, it can be difficult to find. Light is depression’s kryptonite! Open the curtains and blinds and realize that waking up every morning is a gift. Step outside and let the sunshine warm your face. Find beauty in blooming flowers and buzzing bees as life is in color. Take a walk and admire the beauty that touches you. Listen for the sounds of chirping birds and watch the squirrels play joyfully from tree to tree. Smile from the joy of children’s laughter playing outside and giggle at moms as they chase them down. Enjoy the time of learning about your inner self and the dreams you wish to accomplishment. One baby step every day completed to work towards your goal gives inspiration to look to a hopeful future. Don't be afraid to try because the attempt brings knowledge. Surround yourself in positivity and always treat others as you wish to be treated. Live by love and lead without fear. Allow the wind to blow the fog of depression away by believing in your individuality because there is a place for everyone in this world. Have faith in yourself to know that you are making choices that are best for you.
