How to heal fully and properly.
Don't believe everything you think.
The mighty elephant possesses immense strength, able to uproot trees solely with its trunk. Yet, it remains captive, restrained by a slender rope. Despite its power to easily escape, it makes no attempt to break free. Why? The story begins during its youth, when it is first bound with a feeble rope, still lacking the strength to break it. In initial efforts, it strives with all its might to break loose, but eventually realizes its efforts are in vain. Gradually, a force stronger than chains or barriers takes hold of it—an unshakable belief that escape is impossible. This belief restrains the elephant, impeding its potential despite its capabilities. Comparable beliefs have constrained many of us, causing us to feel unfulfilled in our work, struggle in relationships, and lead lives far from our desired reality.

An old Hindi romantic song is playing on a music system in low volume. The usual ambience noise of the city of dream Mumbai is being heard, hustling-bustling and accompanying, the one which never lets one feel alone. Alak is seated on a bench near a window, in her flat. She is glued to her mobile, seems like she is on a video call with her husband Niranjan while her house help asks her permission to throw away her old footwear. Festival of Diwali is approaching, and the deep cleaning of the house is happening at Alak’s place. Alak’s attention is readily drawn, she looks at the footwear. She seems nostalgic. She shakes her head in disagreement. House help sighs, she looks that Alak is looking at her and Niranjan’s wedding pictures, she carries on with the cleaning work. Alak knows she must get rid of the old, but she is helpless, her mind knows what’s correct, but her heart won’t let her obey her mind. She gets a message from her friend if she wanted to accompany her for shopping. Alak makes an excuse and puts her phone aside. The sun is about to go down, Alak turns on the fairy light, which is hung on the window. Alak loves the view but not for long, the lights get fused because the neighbour lady from the flat above pours water to clean her window. Alak sees the light getting fused, she gets sad. But then, suddenly she feels a spur and she get ready. She wears those shoes and goes out. She is walking in a busy market street. Slowly the festivity lights start feeling the street, as if the city is slowly getting ready to get in her glory. Alak notices it, she enjoys it. She reaches at a light shop, on that busy street, as soon as she enters the shop with flickers all lights of the shop turn on. Alak’s face beams up. She buys fairy lights, and she moves out of the shop. As she walks a few steps away from the shop, one strap of her shoes breaks. She looks at it and sighs, but she carries on walking towards the autorickshaws. While walking she realises one more strap break. She is a bit annoyed. She is continuously asking autorickshaw drivers to take her home, but none is agreeing. She is getting more and more edgy; she is feeling helpless. She walks ahead with hopes to catch an autorickshaw. While walking ahead, her shoe straps get completely torn. She stops an autorickshaw driver, he also denies but then Alak shows her torn footwear, the driver feels bad for her and asks her to hop in. Alak gets inside the autorickshaw, she mouths thank you to the driver. The driver says, this is Mumbai, it will check the last strand of your patience and strength but once you have proved yourself it would not abandon you. Alak has had epiphany about life. She’s happy, inspired. She reaches near her building she pays the fare and moves ahead. Her building is decked up as well, her face brightens up. She throws her old shoes in the society dustbin and keenly moves towards her home, as if she’s ready for the new beginning. She enters her flat, she turns on the light, she looks at Niranjan’s photo hanging on the wall. Alak lights incense stick in front of Niranjan’s photo who passed away two years back. Her eyes are glistened, but she has the courage in her eyes and on her face, she addresses to Niranjan’s photo, I think it’s time to get into the new shoes! She smiles with her eyes filled with tears but her face beaming with courage. She sends a message to her friend, asking her to accompany her for new shoes shopping. She hangs the fairy light on her window and turns on the light. She sits on her favourite spot by the window. The music is turned on with low volume, fairy light has added dim brightness to the view, Alak is admiring the view once again!
