Why We Fail at Achieving Our Goals and How to Turn Things Around
Imagine starting the new year with big plans to change your life, only to watch your enthusiasm fade away as time passes. Why does this happen? Why do we wait for the new year to start fresh, instead of making changes in the middle or end of the year? Maybe the beginning of the year feels like a clean slate, but setting goals without proper planning can lead to frustration and failure. Let’s break down why we tend to fall short of our ambitions and explore how to create a realistic and effective approach to goal-setting.

The Heart of the Canvas
When Ethan decided to leave his corporate job and follow his childhood dream of becoming an artist, he never imagined how deeply the decision would affect him. For years, he had felt the tug of his passion—painting—and the gnawing sensation that there was something more to life than spreadsheets and endless meetings. The pull was subtle at first, like an undercurrent pulling at the edges of his mind. Then, one day, it became undeniable.

Plans, or Lack Thereof
I’m just sitting here, supposing I should write about my projects for 2025. I suppose it would be easier if I actually knew what they were, or if I didn’t feel that I was the project that most needed working on. But here I am, mid-January, staring at my laptop attempting to draft an article on all my sky-high plans, or my lack thereof, for this year.

The Unstoppable Dreamer
In a quiet town nestled between rolling hills, there lived a young woman named Clara, who was deeply in love with the idea of becoming an artist. From an early age, she discovered her passion for creating—whether it was sketching the landscapes around her home or painting portraits of the people she admired. However, Clara’s journey to achieving her dream would not be an easy one, and it would require more than just talent and passion to overcome the obstacles that stood in her way.

Getting Back to Bobby. Bonus in New Year, New Projects Challenge.
Bobby and the Bitter Water is a book I began writing during Covid. It is a story about what happens in a small town after the country’s water supplies are dosed with LSD as told through the eyes of a black cat named Bobby who can walk through walls. Though incomplete at the moment, it is my favorite thing I’ve ever written.

Between Lines and Colors - A Writers and his Palette!. Honorable Mention in New Year, New Projects Challenge.
Images. Words. Connections. Where? How? Who? When? Last year, I wrote a lot and often found myself describing images that lived inside my mind. These could be memory flashes from a now-distant childhood or youth. Events along my journey through the day and life, big or small.

"Are You a Stained-Glass Soul?"
Life often leads us through moments of profound insight, where we are confronted with simple, yet deeply meaningful analogies. These moments can awaken something within us, shedding light on the path of self-discovery. One such powerful analogy compares the human spirit to a stained-glass window. At first glance, it may seem poetic and picturesque, but as we explore this metaphor further, its depth reveals timeless wisdom about human resilience, inner strength, and beauty in adversity.

The Road to Authenticity
We've all done it before - stuck in that weird state of writer's paralysis, staring at a blank page for an embarrassing amount of time, overthinking how we want whatever we're about to create to be perceived by the world. That's where I was at the beginning of this journal entry, caught between the tug-and-pull of being afraid of my own vulnerability, and being excited by it. And to my surprise? My excitement was winning.

2025, A New Year
A new year brings a new chance of beginning again. To reevaluate what could be in your life. I have been doing the same job and living in a similar situation for a while now. No matter how hard I try, the problem never does improve. I am constantly frustrated with my job, but even volunteering some ideas has not been successful. After being there for a long time, I hate to see it continue to become worse. It was fun once and just worsened as I continued working there. I have also been thinking about how to improve the process. It would be nice to fix the mistakes and make the workplace enjoyable.

Creativity Commitment
While on medical leave in 2016, recuperating from a hip replacement, I started a novel. Propped up outside in my backyard with my two dogs for company, and Mount Rainier's glacier peak shining at me in the distance, a story formed in my mind. The book's location was in my vicinity, with streets and landmarks that friends and residents would recognize. Its characters were both young and old, surviving and resisting - joining together in a harsh environment impacted by worldly events. As the characters came to life, words flowed, and my fingers flew across the keyboard to keep up with the speeding narrative zooming in my head. It was my sincere hope to get the book done pronto.
