SELF RELIANCE

A requirement, going forward

A SHORT OPINION ON MY PEOPLE

I might get some flak for this, but I have to say it. Until every race can be self reliant on itself, the lack of respect from other races will always come into play.

When you look at some races, especially Immigrants to a country, they have their own town, within each major city. They support each other one hundred percent. They look at what is profitable and how to invest those profits, and then they act.

For example, wigs and weaves. We know as women that hair sells. Why do we have to rely on certain races to provide that hair? Why cant we purchase the hair on line from Europe and Asia wholesale, and sell it ourselves? Nails is a big money business. Why are we not going to school to learn this trade and provide the service?

I put out a post the other day looking for a licensed plumber. The only people that contacted me were mostly Italian and Chinese. Yes, we all know plumbers in the hood that can fix anything. But when it comes to dealing with the Department of Buildings in New York, they mandate, that any work that has to be done involving restructuring of your home, needs a permit. Only a licensed plumber can request that permit.

My family is mixed. My dad's father was Caucasian. On my mum's side, my great grand was Scottish. I look at everyone the same. I don't see colour. I see souls. When I read and see the blatant disrespect of black people in other countries, it pains me. Because we are so reliant on the services that other races provide mostly, we tolerate certain things, because what we see and hear about doesn't directly affect us. But it does.

I do hope that after COVID 19 has been eradicated, we as a people look back and see how everyone was treated. It doesn't matter if a person is Haitian, African, Jamaican, or Afro-American, our skin colour determines how we are stereotyped.

Unless we begin to encourage the youth to learn these trades, attend school and obtain business degrees, learn coding, learn how to invest, learn about credit and how it can be used to move up in life, things wont change.

Until as a people, we stop hating and wishing harm on those that have made it, and moved to a safer neighbourhood, because they know that if they stay around, they will be a target, things wont change.

This is our generation, and we see what's going on, yet nothing wont change until as a people, we change our mindset. Support that woman that opened up the grocery store. Support that man that created his clothing line. Support that man that opened up that laundromat. So what if the machines aren't new. As long as they work, that's what matters.

Business acumen is a must. People capitalise on what's trending. I'm going to close with this. Five dudes each spend $300 a month on a pair of Pradas. That $1500 could have been mortgage for a house, or rental for a store, where one of the family members could have been selling hair, and beauty supplies. But the average person doesn't look outside the box, and until we do, as a race, we will always be reliant on another.

When people know that you don't need them for anything, but do business with them as a choice, they will respect and appreciate you as a customer, because they will know that you don't have to enter their store.

We are all the same people regardless of colour. What you can do, I can do. Some might have to work a little harder and struggle a little due to finances, but anyone can achieve anything in life, with determination.

Think about it.

Joan.

It's just my opinion. It's not directed at anyone in particular. Just something to make you say, "Humph."
