Realizing a Dream

You Must Cast Your Net First

When people talk about dream work, they could mean all sorts of things. For instance, they might just mean recording the dreams they have at night. This shows intention. Your intention is to learn how to record your dreams.

Basically, you need to remember them. You need to be observant. Set an inner clock so you remember one or two words after you’ve had a dream, and when you sit in the morning with those special 15 minutes you allow yourself before you need to get ready for work, you can write down the dream based on the two words you wrote down at 3 am.

This means you need to wake up during the night and write down those words, or record them on your phone. The next skill is going back to sleep.

All sorts of dream books are available to help you interpret your dreams. The ancient symbols help you hear the story of yourself.

Another aspect of dreams is the mystical aspect. Where you can visit with loved ones in your life who have passed. Just to visit. To hug them, to kiss them, to be with them in a way that cannot be approached in your normal everyday walk-around-in life.

Dreams, not just nighttime dreams; the dreams you have of future goals are just as important. Dreams are the impetus that moves you from not doing something to doing something. They are the beginning, and everybody needs something to move toward.

The dream might be to read a lot more than you normally do now. That first question becomes where to find the time. As with writing, you have to make the time. You are allotted 24 hours every day. You could carve out half an hour to read.

Read what? Anything. You can read fiction; you can read non-fiction. You can read poetry. You can read short essays.

What if the dream is to learn a new skill? The best way is to find someone willing to help you make a simple box, rewire a lamp, or mend a piece of clothing. Once you see someone do something you’d like to do, well, it’s like magic. I usually look for people on YouTube. What is interesting is that even an expert will keep learning from others. Maybe they'll find an easier way to do something or a new technique.

Dreams and intention have energy attached to them. Just as you walk from your door to your car, you are expending energy. A dream or intention sends that creative energy out into the universe.

It’s like fishing with a net. You cast the net of your intention out. You might even announce it silently to your heart, to your inner self, and to God that you are going to learn how to be a writer, or a singer, or a dancer. What happens is that if you do it often enough, the energy gathers momentum and flows easily, making connections with others of a like mind.

There is a saying: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. This also works in reverse order: when the teacher is ready, the student will appear. This is the kind of energy I am talking about.

What is also interesting is that the steps to realize these dreams will be different for everyone. You'll need patience to build a following as a writer, grow your online store, or learn to ice skate. You never thought you would need patience, but it might turn out to be something you either need to learn from scratch or learn at a deeper level.

You’ll never know until you try.

You might also think that you need money to pursue this dream of yours. Money is energy, too. Perhaps there are other things that you can do to learn this new skill that don’t involve much more than buying a book. After you’ve gotten to a specific point, and for each dream it is different, you might then think you need to go to school for it. Or you learn how to do it on your own. Sure, it might take longer, but you also might save yourself a lot of money.

Remember, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

Also, the universe is funny about money. Out of the blue, you might learn of a part-time job you could take. The interesting thing about opportunities is being aware enough when one lands at your feet to recognize that you have been given one. Sure, you could ignore it, or find something wrong with it. Maybe it's something on your wish list. You could ask that you be more open to opportunities.

What I have found is that goals and dreams require different things. The plan that you make to achieve a specific goal might just involve you learning about five extra things. I discovered this as I set out on my own road of becoming a psychic. Who knew that I would need to learn how to draw? Never in a million years would I think that was a necessary part of being a psychic. But it turned out I needed to become more observant.

My advice? Have perseverance. Be steadfast. Do a little work on whatever your goal is every day. Be consistent. Learn to be consistent. Establish boundaries for work, for friends, and for family. Tell them you are no longer going to be available at the drop of a hat because you have a dream.

Now, the interesting thing about dreams is that as the energy goes out into the universe, you'll be confronted with all the reasons you shouldn't achieve the dream. This is all centered in yourself. Who knows what feelings you have inside yourself that might prevent you from realizing a dream. Perhaps you need to develop a sense of worth. Perhaps you are too easily swayed by the opinions of others. Perhaps some head work is in order. It couldn’t hurt. If you need to seek the help of a psychotherapist. What you say to them is, “I have a dream. I am having trouble getting there.” That’s how you start. The skills you learn from a psychotherapist will serve you for the rest of your life. I have always found it helpful to write in a journal about things that have stymied me.

If you’re curious where I keep all my work, my Where I Am page has everything in one place.

I hope what you have read here helps you get over a big bump in your life. Dreams are necessary for everyone. And, certainly, like a mirage, the closer you come to a dream, the more surely, it will change. This is natural. This is what is supposed to happen.

Good dreaming and thanks for reading.
