Well, Hellooooo!

Today did not begin like it was supposed to - must have gotten out on the wrong side of the bed - but then again, most days aren’t starting off in the best way right now, are they!?

Alarm goes off. Why have I even set an alarm? What day is it? ...Dance class! Hurries to wardrobe. Finds gym clothes. Slathers on deodorant. Runs to living room. Shit, trainers! Quickly sets up iPad and runs to the hall. Grabs suitable footwear. Pulls on said footwear without undoing laces because I am still a 7 year old girl who promises she can wiggle her toes in without having to partake in such menial tasks. Waves at screen to alert presence on video call. Pushes table to wall. Ready to move. Dance teacher smiles. Warm up begins. Me? I stare back glumly and give it a half arsed shot. Same goes for the rest of the virtual class. Not because I can’t dance - I can, for a chubby lassie - but today I wasn’t ‘in the mood.’ Not a bad word about the teacher - her classes are fantastic. When the world is normal I go to her classes twice a week at the gym. But the world isn’t normal right now; and probably won’t be ‘normal’ for a while.

Shower. Try to shift the glum. Change. Set up laptop. Load up virtual class portal. It’s my turn to host. Up pop their twinkling wee faces - they have no idea what’s going on - singing, clapping, story time, more singing. All the smiles. Wave goodbye. See you soon. Online. Soon.

Today it hit me.

We are in the middle of a very big problem which is affecting livelihoods, structures, routines, business, everything that we need to keep calm and carry on. New rules are being added all the time. Get your messages in when absolutely necessary. Travel to work only when working from home isn’t an option. But these are for the good of the whole human race.

Trying to find some sense of normalcy by getting up and taking part in activities that are normally done in social settings. Going for one government approved walk a day for some fresh air. Spending more time staring at screens. Spending more time with our fellow house dwellers. Cooking together. Laughing together. Those that are lucky enough to be living with at least one other person, that is.

Trying to keep us sane in a world that is becoming more complicated by the day.

So fellow humans, see that picture I put above? Look at it. Read it. Out loud. In your head. Whatever you need to do to embody it - do it. The next time I feel like I did this morning, I’m going to look at it and remember how I felt the first time I saw it.

Also, not every day has to be a productive day, but it has to count.

Keep doing you.

Stay safe. Stay home. Save lives.
