When I saw the chance to write about my dream home, I knew I was in heaven. I don’t remember when I first imagined it, but the blueprint has been years in the making! So, get ready, because this isn’t going to be some hints here and there, no. Get ready to journey through my imagination as I tap into my (non-existent but imaginarily real) architect abilities. Ted Mosby’s GNB tower ain't got nothing on what you’re about to see.

And so, let’s begin the journey.

Location:

So, we’re beginning with the all-important location of my dream home. This is a make or break of how this dream comes alive, so I’ll lay out the basics.

1. It’s in the mountains. Not just any mountains, no. There are only two places on earth that I can imagine befitting of this masterpiece you are all about to see. If I want to stick with my all-American roots, then the rocky ridges of the Pacific Northwest would take the cake. But if I were to take this imagination dream train abroad, the Swiss Alps would be my go-to.

2. Winding up a driveway long enough to have its own name with trees surrounding. Something that takes the best from a Bond Film, horror movie, and a Christmas comedy about a family getaway. Driving up sets the tone of what’s to come (cue the Christmas music).

3. There’s a lake down in the distance. Don’t question it – it’s necessary for the valley landscape below.

Okay, so the locations set, and you know where it’s all going to go down. So, what’s the actual house look like?

The House:

This structure is going to be a beautiful wood masterpiece – a log cabin. Not your ordinary lumberjack, with an ax, back in the 1840s, roughing it kind of cabin. This beaut’ will have all the glamping essentials. It’ll look something like this excessive giant right here.

As it stands tall and sturdy, the angled windows will look *takes out compass* due west. Or east? Whichever way the sunsets…West…definitely west. This is where that mountain range and that all-important lake come in to play. With a deck that puts the porches on southern plantations to shame, it will provide the most essential outdoor experience.

The Interior

As you walk in, the entrance will give a grand sense of home. The peaked ceiling over twenty feet above you will bring you alive and comfort you at the same time. In the summer months, it will lift your spirits from the beat of the sun.

And in the winter? In the winter is when it all comes alive. A second-floor balcony, railed with elegant beams of craftsman wood, will crown from above. And in the center of it all, the grandest Christmas tree of silver, gold, and red bring back the forgotten memories of childhood as Christmas spirit fills the air.

Chestnuts are roasting on the open fire in the room ahead. Just as the grandiose entrance pulls you in, the living room draws you in with warmth and invitation.

The Living Room :

As we walk into the stone-walled charm, the crackle of the evening fire dances with the melodic tunes and velvet voice of Nat King Cole. Here, friends become family, and the family becomes kin. And the elegance of every beautiful detail intrigues you with authenticity. Still, it quells all the fears you had from moments ago.

You see. This isn’t just a house; it’s a home. Even though you walked in filled with excitement, you were welcomed in with the safety of a silent night.

“Just take a seat here,” your dearest friend says. Those nearest to you surrounding as the eggnog is passed around (Or Christmas cookies if eggnog isn’t your style).

As everyone settles in and the Christmas cheer spreads, I slip into the kitchen around the corner.

The Kitchen

The kitchen and the living space are the two most important places in any home. They supply everything that is needed... well, almost everything that’s required to provide for a beautiful evening.

As a cook and good ol’ foodie, my kitchen has to be ON POINT!

Imagine all your aunties and uncles, grandparents, and little cousins running around in what can only be described as heaven on earth. Here, we spare nothing for the sake of saving a dollar.

Do you know what that smell is?

The spicey elegance of Christmas cookies coming to temp in the oven under the eight-flame stovetop wrapped in stainless steel and absolute perfection. Click, click, click, and the flames ignite. Whatever you want and I’ll cook it.

Free to Explore :

The rest of the house is just as beautiful as everything you’ve seen. Go ahead and explore because you’re free to go wherever the night takes you.

*The chime of bells begins to play over the house wired sound system*

You know the tune.
