Making Time for Your Priorities

Three Ideas to Stay Organized

There are only 24 hours in a day and many busy people can relate to feeling the need to have more. After going to work, school, and taking care of other responsibilities, people tend to be left with a couple of hours here or there, if they are lucky. It still seems like the leftover time is not enough for them to do any other important items. It does not have to be this way if you don't want it to. When it comes to prioritizing, you need to find the time to do it. If you can't find time to prioritize, then you need to make the time around your routine schedule. The following are just a few ways you can prioritize any work or tasks you need to do.

Schedule your activities.

When making time for something or someone, you may need to move your schedule around for a more convenient time. Not a lot of people know how to schedule effectively. They may have their work days listed and maybe some appointments which gives a great overview of the week or month, but what about the smaller, daily tasks at hand? There are different kinds of schedules like the polyphasic sleep method, the Pomodoro technique, the time-blocking method, etc. The Pomodoro technique is like the HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) of all scheduling. The Pomodoro technique requires you to work in short, hugely productive, intense bursts, followed by a short break. Scheduling is not only a great technique to utilize in order to map out exactly where and how your time gets spent. It also helps to create structure and stability in your life allowing you to not feel so overwhelmed.

Focus on one thing at a time.

Many people truly believe that they are taking a shortcut by multitasking and they are in a sense. However, it's important to understand what it actually is. Multitasking is the inaccurate word for what people think they are doing when they do several things seemingly simultaneously. Multitasking is simply switching really fast from one task, or activity, to another. It's better to lend your focus to one thing at a time because trying to multitask will exhaust more of your energy. It may appear as if you are completing several projects efficiently, but the quality of results being produced may be questionable. It's best to give undivided attention to one task in case you might miss any errors previously made. In fact, multitasking can lead to a greater risk of making mistakes which will require you to go back and fix. Imagine all the time you could save by spending your time effectively by simply pacing yourself and delegating enough of your focus to one item until it's completion.

Get rid of anything unnecessary.

Clutter is not just the physical junk or disorganization laying around someone's office in the form of unsorted documents and balled up paper. Clutter is a mental state as well which corresponds to things like anxiety, depression, and stress. You won't always be able to tell when someone has mental clutter as everything on the outside looks relatively okay while their mind is in disarray. Just as hoarders hold onto physical items that serve them no good anymore, there are people who hold onto ideas that they do nothing with. Sometimes it's best to give away what you no longer need, as it frees your space up for other things. Sell my car Los Angeles may be something you search if you find that you may not want your car anymore. If you have things in storage that you don't use, you should go through what is no longer needed. Adding anything onto what you already have will just further create clutter. This type of environment is not conducive, as clutter and procrastination are linked. Once you declutter, you'll be able to think clearer and get to your priorities a lot easier.

Decluttering and clearing unnecessary items from your schedule will free up more of your time to allocate to more important tasks on your list. Multi-tasking doesn't equate to producing good quality. You can be efficient and produce quality work more effectively with the previously listed methods.
