Let It Go...

Somethings are not worth holding on.

We all are holding on to something. A belief, a dream, a person, the past...whatever it is...sometimes one has to let it go and let it be. Holding on to something is not always the best course of action. It is the greatest of ironies that what we pursue persistently is something we can never obtain.

What is the point with being attached to the impossible when nothing will come of it? It does no good to continue that grasp which only serves to hurt you. If anything, letting go is the best thing anyone can do for themselves and for someone. Its hard, but its worth it.

I cannot begin to tell you the times I've known people whom just could not let go of a past injury or person. Each conversation was just the same tired diatribe about the person or event. It was as though the same fight just replayed itself constantly. As if it were some mental reenactment going on inside the mind of the one whom was wronged. Regardless if the fight or injustice occurred a year ago, five years ago, or even a decade, or possibly twenty years ago, people continue to relive it.

Even I have been in this type of thinking. Reliving the same fights, the same arguments, acting out the last battle. As if by reliving it, someone can change the past outcome. Like we could alter the experience where our side came out victorious.

Sometimes people live in the fantasy of our own mind. Imagining what it would be like to date that guy or girl whom seems so far off. Or maybe hanging out with the people we dream about being friends with. Then, there is that meet up with those online artists whom inspire you and me. While there is a likelihood of such a meeting, its safe to say when the chances are slim to none.

One can only imagine the times people fantasized such a meeting. Yet, the fact its all in our minds causes us to strive forth with vigor to make it a reality. Only do we fall short of the expectations once we cannot have what we desire.

We all play out the fantasy. No need to point fingers or list names. We've all been there and done that.

Perhaps its better to let go.

As painful as it may seem, letting go seems to be the best thing we can do. There is nothing to be gained from reliving the same tired battles. Once a person realizes this, then they can be at peace. And while the fantasy of having that dream relationship, that meet up, or that desire becomes hard to obtain, its sometimes best to accept the reality and move on.

There is nothing to be gained by reliving past hurts or reveling in scenarios which may never come to pass. No matter what one does or feels, the past is just that: the past. One cannot change the resulting outcome. Even if one plays up their victim status or were made into a villain, holding on does not help. Nor does living in the constant fantasy of being in that relationship or group.

If you are someone whom is doing this, please stop. Holding on to such a thing only hurts you worse in both the short and long run. The number of people whom stress out for holding on to a bad memory or fantasy is endless. To anyone reading, its important that you let go while you can.

Its not always easy, but its for the best.
