My military journey began with a stern regimen of defense training and eventually, I found myself part of a Dutch infantry unit. The military honed my skills in several vital areas: discipline, grit, self-esteem, the importance of unity, and critical decision-making.

My six-year service included deployments to the strife-torn areas of the former Yugoslavia, experiences that matured me and expanded my worldview. The resilience of those who had lost everything but chose to rebuild from the ashes profoundly impacted me, putting my own life into perspective and reducing any personal grievances. This epiphany led me to reconsider my professional path to allow for more family engagement.

Embarking on a New Course

Equipped with skills such as agility, precision shooting, and a collaborative spirit, I was naturally inclined toward a position with the Dutch Police.

Transition to Police Work

My military background smoothed the transition into the police force. I was accepted into a dual program of work and study at the police academy. Although the academy's culture initially lacked the fellowship I had known, being older than most recruits at 26, I eventually found kindred spirits in ex-military colleagues.

Post-academy, my career involved various shifts in emergency services. After some years, I took on a role in an undercover narcotics task force. While this work was rewarding, the irregular hours began to affect my well-being, leading me to rethink my long-term career prospects.

Reflections and Decisions Amidst a Pandemic

The 2020 pandemic prompted significant reflection about my professional life and aspirations. My wife and I discussed a new direction, favoring a venture that would provide a home-based income and more family time.
