Is The New Normal, For The Better?

A Step in a better direction?

Many of us have been asking if this new way of life will be the new normal. Some seem to believe so since we've been living in it for months at this point. We've done as we've been told, washed our hands, we wear the masks. We do everything that is asked. Now the question becomes mingled with another, is this new normal for the better? Are we taking steps in the right direction, or could we be building the foundation of other future problems?

One of many, more humorous (for those who might be a little more morbid) changes is the idea of how the WORLD has become obsessive with washing their hands, buying hand sanitizer, bleach wipes to clean up the used surfaces of their house, and the world, by and large, getting themselves clean.

Why is it, the average person could ignore the possibility of a Pandemic (A truth that's been presented to us for years as not something that could but WOULD happen) but the second it's thrown at them, they realize, it's time to wash our hands, it's time to be clean? Is this an individual character flaw, or a worldwide flaw no one in a place of power has gone out of their way to fix?

Much of this, comes from the parents as well as the friends of the individual in question, whether that's the sudden urge to wash their hands or to not care at all about washing their hands. It's the drive to wear a mask, or just not wear one because "It makes them uncomfortable, or they can't breathe". This comes from those around us, though much of us are full-grown adults, like children, we still lead by the examples of others. If our parents wear the mask, maybe we'll feel more eager to wear it to. If we can all learn to view this a necessary inconvenience, maybe that can be one of the things to help us ease just a little easier into this new normal.

Now, even if we have a vaccine, and things begin to slow down as far as the on slot of the world's bad news, what is the new normal? What will this new normal look like? This life with the masks on, standing six feet apart, avoiding events such as ball games, concerts, gatherings with family. This brings the question, this new normal, is it for the better?

Is it for the better for a person suffering from depression to further isolate themselves while in a depressive state?

Is it for the better for this person to feel like they can't ask for help from anyone, because even those they want to reach out to are scared?

Is it better for companies to put their essential workers in the dark about matters that directly affect them, for the sake of making the company look good and become another of the many companies and businesses to crumble under the weight of this Pandemic? Or would it just be better for the person unhappy with the job to just suck it up, get happy, because the entire country is unemployed?

If the answer to this question is yes, then, where's the room for personal growth? Where's the room for the essential worker to really feel validated as a human being when their own employers make them feel like they should be ready to die for the company with smiles on their faces?

Are they better off just quitting, leaving the job and hoping, even in a sea of doubt, that something better will come along for them?

Is this new normal for the better? Are we heading in a better direction?

Much like everything else in this Pandemic, in this difficult, difficult times, that cannot be answered, unless we remind ourselves to look out for each other, and not be afraid to hug that friend who is struggling, even if we're being told to stay six feet about.
