Hope

Experiences, Human Suffering, and Love

I would be writing this based on my experiences, those around me, and just some which I have come to realise would eventually arrive or not arrive, but stands the test of time.

We fall, we fail, we hurt and bruise, but we still get up, wipe off the dirt, dust, and pain. There must be something which guides our inner being. Call it survival of the fittest, call it god, call it self-preservation, or simply call it our inevitable faith in hope to lead a fulfilled life.

I believe all humans complement each other, and I have imagined situations in which, if everyone was nice to each other, then how would we even recognise and appreciate what captures the unique trait of being nice? However, having said that, sometimes we shut our eyes to the greenery around us based on one instance. It takes one instance to just blind us to believe in the atrocities in this world. But if these atrocities didn't exist, how would we ever value the goodness in one another? I have almost always lost hope when I see someone on the streets begging for just a slice of bread, comparing it with a boisterous individual stuffing his/her face with food and wasting it in a high end restaurant. It almost baffles me over time, about how ignorant we can be about one another, just based on our standings in society. How can we choose to brush harsh realities that exist in this world under the carpet and pretend that everything is alright? Even — if I do use this metaphor quite literally — the capacity of the carpet to hide the sufferings of humanity and animals would not be quite efficiently handled in the long run, and we would have to manage it. We at the end of the day have to acknowledge the inter-connectedness that we, as humans, have. When I say this the "butterfly-effect" always comes to my mind.

I hope that one day no matter how many differences people may have or how many problems they may have with one-another, they do have certain similarities with each other that allow the fostering of individual growth and freedom. And I don't think this is impossible. I believe in the steering of constructive energy in each and every individual that inhabits this beautiful world that has so much abundance, energy, love, and compassion, but only if we start to acknowledge the beauty, and appreciate the diversity around us. It adds richness and colour to this world. Saying that, negative experiences allow us to appreciate the positives we may have overlooked in our lives. If an individual is used to having abundance of sunlight given the region he/she lives in, and takes that as a way of life, shifts to a place with virtually no sunlight, he/she eventually comes to appreciate the little joys that were around him/her that allowed the feeling of joy to flow. Recognition of the beauty around us creates a sense of hope, that even in the present if we feel that there isn't much for us. In the future when I look back, there would be a little spark that allowed me to move forwards, and I guess that is wisdom and gratitude.

Stating all these preachy, optimistic, growth-oriented paragraphs isn't easy. It takes a lot of negative experiences, failures, disappointments, and a number of moments of extreme self doubt, but it points to the nurturing ability that we all have that preserves us and helps us move forwards. So, don't lose hope. It's what's going to help you keep going. Keep hoping for different things. If one doesn't work out, get another. Seek help, take self-care, indulge yourself, and love yourself the most, because at the end of the day, loving yourself is all that matters.
