Hiding Behind The Shadows

One never knows

By Cheryl A Nocera Published 3 months ago • 3 min read

When we meet someone you never really know what is going on in someone's mind. We only know what people allow us to know. It is people like me that dig further. Usually when you meet someone you see the best side. There is laughter, some talk, and fun. This is how friendships and relationships develop.

The older people get it is harder to hide what is truly lurking, because this is where emotions come to life. One can only hide their emotions for so long before it explodes. Going back to shaking a bottle of coke what happens next. Most people want to have a great life, be happy, and fake it until they can not anymore. For some people it is more challenging. The older we get, emotions run high, especially if you are a woman. OMG!!!!! After a certain age there is heightened state of emotions. This is where reality sets in and you cannot hide anymore.

The world we live in now with social media and AI being so present depending on your searches this will be what comes up. For the most part we hear be happy, this is how you get happy, do this you will be happier, or become more positive. All of these are great, but if a person does not know how it is useless.

At my darkest time in life I saw people being happy. I listened to them talk about their vacations, time off, and places they have been. All I could think to myself was, why can't I have this? What did I do wrong in life? When is it my turn? When you are working so many hours just to pay bills and survive.

Imagine being a person who cannot control their emotions or feelings. I have encountered so many people who cannot. Yes, some are drawn to me. Not because I appear to have it all together, but because I am kind. Also, I think there is a radar that goes off that lets people know it is Ok to speak to me. Now I will say I am far from having it altogether. But I am comfortable in my skin. I love who I am. I love the things I do. I love helping others.

Why am I writing this? Because I feel like everyone should treat people well no matter what is going on. Allow people to be themselves. Try not to get discouraged when their true colors come out, and they are no longer hiding in the shadows. Other than evil people - people are good. Some just need extra space than others.

Everyone deserves to be loved. Everyone deserves to be happy. Everyone deserves to have someone in their life that will make them vibe bright. One of my good friend's told me she suffers from depression and she has now come to realize that sometimes she just needs days away from speaking with people, because she knows it will be a disaster if she does. I have other friends that just fall off the face of the earth and then you will hear from them days later. Yes, it is frustrating when these things happen. However, it is better that you let them be than to constantly battle with them.

Remember when you have friends that need a little extra care, let them have their time, allow them to do what they have to do to feel better, and enjoy the times with them that you can. Your friends and relationships are important no matter what is going on in their minds.
