As the coronavirus pandemic is sweeping the world and news outlets are saturated with death tolls, infections and scary predictions, it would be nice to focus on some good news. Besides the main benefit of avoiding infection and spread of the disease, we have compiled some of the good consequences the quarantine and social distancing orders around the world have caused. During these difficult and uncertain times, it’s always good to look at the positive while still being informed of how this situation develops.

Less Car Accidents

According to data from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation car accidents have dropped in recent weeks. The past year the state saw nearly 2,500 car accidents per week, but since the epidemic began and Gov. Charlie Baker ordered stay-at-home regulations, the number has plummeted. The state had 569 car crashes from March 15 to March 21. As most commuters are staying home there are less cars on the road and less probability of an accident from happening. However, if you are involved in an accident, car accident lawyers around the country are working remotely and are available to help with your claim.

Drops in Pollution Levels

The pandemic has shut down industrial activity, people aren’t driving to work and staying home instead, children are not being driven in buses to school, manufacturing facilities have stopped production, these changes have reduced air pollution levels around the world. Such is the case in New Delhi, according to an analysis by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) the day the nationwide curfew went into effect resulted in the lowest traffic pollution levels on record for the city. Pictures show bright clear skies where there’s usually a foggy haze from all the harmful emissions in the air. Wuhan in central China, where the epidemic started and was on a strict lockdown at the beginning of the year, has seen large drops in contamination levels as well. According to NASA, nitrogen dioxide levels across eastern and central China have dropped 10 to 30 percent.

More Time to Spend With Loved Ones

If you’re quarantining with your family this is a great opportunity to appreciate your time together. Try setting up a game night each week to play board games or video games with the whole family. It’s a great way to fight boredom, make some good memories from this unfortunate situation and take your mind off for a while from the news and stress we are all under. Pick a movie everyone will enjoy and watch it together or start a new show you can all binge watch.

Educational Improvements

Schools all over the U.S. have closed their doors and are teaching remotely via recorded videos or live online classes. This is an opportunity for the schools to improve their technology and see where they lack infrastructure and demand government for these resources. The techniques and strategies that teachers and schools learn about online education during this period can hopefully be maintained and used even after the crisis. This is also an opportunity for all the parents that are currently homeschooling to appreciate teachers’ hard work and demand their representatives for better resources for their teachers and school districts.

The COVID-19 epidemic is a worldwide health crisis that we will feel the consequences of long after it has been controlled. It is an unprecedented time where everyone, even our leaders, are uncertain of what the future holds. But even in the darkest times there’s always something positive to be rescued. I encourage you to look at how this situation can improve our world and keep your mind focused on the positive. We can’t control everything, but we can control how we react to these unfortunate situations.
