From Cubicle to Bitcoin Pioneer: A Journey of Freedom and Fulfillment

In 2017, I faced a pivotal moment in my life. I had what many would consider a stable, comfortable corporate job. But comfort isn’t the same as happiness, and stability often disguises monotony. The truth was, I found the work uninspiring, and my days felt predictable to the point of tedium. I longed for something more—a life that felt meaningful and alive. That’s when I made the decision that would change everything: I quit my job.

I had no roadmap, no guarantees, and no fallback plan. What I did have was a burning curiosity about Bitcoin. It wasn’t just a fleeting interest; it felt like a revelation. The more I read, the more I realized Bitcoin was more than just a digital currency. It was a revolutionary idea that could challenge the status quo and reshape how we think about money, freedom, and trust. This passion became my new north star.

But passion alone doesn’t pay the bills. To fund my exploration of Bitcoin, I leaned on another interest of mine: digital marketing. With skills I’d honed in my previous career, I began freelancing, helping businesses grow their online presence while I devoted every spare moment to studying Bitcoin. The deeper I went, the more I realized how much misinformation and confusion surrounded this technology. If Bitcoin was to change the world, people needed a way to understand it.

That’s when I had an idea: what if I could create a simple, tangible way to help beginners get started with Bitcoin? The result was the Bitcoin Starter Box, a kit designed to guide people through their first steps in this new and exciting world. I poured everything into this project—my knowledge, my passion, and my belief in Bitcoin’s potential.

The response was overwhelming. Thousands of people bought the Starter Box, proving there was a hunger for accessible Bitcoin education. For the first time, I felt I was making a real impact, helping others on their journey while building something truly my own.

Success with the Starter Box gave me the confidence to tackle an even bigger project: writing a book. I wanted to create a comprehensive yet approachable guide to Bitcoin, something that would demystify the technology and inspire others to explore its possibilities. Writing a book was no small task, but the effort paid off. When my book became the number one bestseller among Dutch Bitcoin books, it was a moment of validation unlike anything I’d experienced before.

But my journey didn’t stop there. As I became more involved in the Bitcoin community, I realized the importance of bringing people together. Online discussions were great, but there’s something uniquely powerful about face-to-face interaction. I wanted to create a space where Bitcoin enthusiasts, skeptics, and newcomers could connect, learn, and share ideas. That vision led to the creation of the Future of Bitcoin Conference in Belgium.

The first event was a resounding success, drawing over 600 attendees from diverse backgrounds. The energy in the room was electric. People weren’t just attending sessions; they were networking, debating, and forming connections that would last long after the conference ended. Seeing the community come alive in this way was deeply fulfilling. Inspired by this success, I organized a second conference, which grew even larger and more impactful.

While Bitcoin has been a significant focus of my life, it’s not the only area where I’ve found fulfillment. Alongside my wife, I run a small marketing firm where we collaborate with a talented team to help businesses thrive. Building this agency has been an equally rewarding journey. It’s not just about the work we do but the relationships we’ve built and the creative challenges we tackle together.

Looking back, quitting my corporate job was the most daunting decision I ever made, but it was also the most liberating. I traded certainty for possibility and monotony for meaning. Along the way, I’ve discovered that success isn’t just about financial gains or professional milestones. It’s about waking up every day excited for what’s ahead, surrounded by people who inspire and support you.

Today, I live a life that’s both purposeful and fulfilling. I’ve built a career rooted in my passions, contributed to a growing global movement, and created a family business that reflects our shared values. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth every challenge.

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s this: taking risks in pursuit of what you love isn’t reckless—it’s necessary. When you follow your passion and invest in what truly matters, the rewards go far beyond what you could ever plan for.
