Introduction

The film "Freedom Writers" is based on the life of Erin Gruwell, a recent college graduate, who becomes a teacher as a literature teacher in the first years of a middle school in which she will experience certain complications through the movie advances. This movie is based on real facts.

Discussion:

The film is located in the year 1995, within the framework of racial conflicts, a problem that has been experienced at all times. This film begins with different images of disputes in various suburbs of Los Angeles in which it brings us back to the issue of racial discrimination, conflicts and injustice, these anti-values are the main problems that the film raises. In this film the different thoughts of the characters make the viewers realize how terrible and unfair life can be, but they also give the viewer that sense of hope and passion for wanting to make a change in themselves and in others while the movie passes.

Development:

The school where Erin is to teach has an integration program for "problem" students, mostly from families of ethnic culture, migrants, and low-income people. Due to the entry of these new students, the school lowers its academic average and, according to the authorities and professors, this harms the image of the institution. As time goes by, Erin realizes that society's prejudices and stigmatizations are what marginalize her students from learning appropriate for young people her age. The same lack of opportunities and possibilities are reflected in the differentiated treatment that the authorities have with respect to “less favored” students, from the selection of teaching materials, as well as opportunities to learn from other places. Miss Gruwell perceives very little interest on the part of the Institution in wanting to teach these boys since in her own words they say that "they hope that these students get tired and drop out of school" ("they are going to do it anyway" );. The authorities do not provide materials so that they “do not ruin them”: these materials are for the “rest of the students”.

"We ask them to come study, we tell them they have a chance, and then we don't educate them." Exact words that our protagonist says when she found out about the cruel and not very credible accusations that they were making to these young people for the simple fact of not being up to the standards or acceptances that society raises.

As the film passes, different conflicts are seen where our students are the main ones, since each one of them has something in common, their lives have never been easy, many of them have never been able to enjoy a safe life or even enjoyed their lives. life, being in a constant struggle to survive the excruciating circumstances of life.

Conclusion:

In this sense, the film represents an important reflection material for all. Although the demands of cinema (it is still a film) sometimes tend to idealize certain situations, the fact that it is based on real events means that the work can function as a document and is a trigger for certain topics for dialogue and reflection within the film. classroom. Like many of us, we might think that this film is aimed at a young audience, but in a way it is aimed at everyone, since the main theme of the film is something in which we can all feel identified, not only young people but also adults who, for Through this film you can have a better idea on how to guide us towards a world of possibilities where you can have a little faith and believe that we can improve and that we can be who we want to be and not get stuck simply because we can't meet expectations. of our society.
