You may think you know what this article is about. Its simple isn't it? The world currently finds itself in the midst of turmoil which feels like its draining the very life out of us, how can we turn this around so that it doesn't? What can we do? I have been asking myself this very question every day that I cannot see the smiles or smile back at my fellow humans as we pass each other on the street; every day that I cannot go to my church or yoga class or get a professional massage or share a movie with a theater full of excited happy people with similar interests.

Darkness has been given a bad wrap. Overall we believe it to be bad, ugly, scary or at the very least, undesirable. What if...

...we began to see darkness with new eyes. Sounds like a contradiction doesn't it? How can one see in the dark? Just because we can't see something, doesn't mean it isn't there, that it isn't radiating with light so concentrated that our human sensory limitations won't allow us to see it. The human eye can only perceive light at wavelengths between 390 and 750 nanometers. This, we call our "visible" spectrum. Many animals are capable of perceiving light frequencies outside of our narrow band of electromagnetic radiation.

Consider the fact that a baby is conceived and grows in the darkness of the womb. Consider the fact that carbon, one of the darkest elements on the Earth, is essential for all life on the planet, without it, life could not exist.

So, with this in mind, would it be fair to say that whatever we may have perceived as unfavorable because of our miseducation of darkness could be radiating so brightly we just simply don't see it, therefore have misjudged it?

The times we are living in now may seem full of turmoil, however, hidden within this light that we cannot see are wondrous possibilities. On the other side of racial tension is racial harmony, our world is awakening and shedding its old skin. Hidden in this pandemic is a new awareness to more optimal health and wellness, its a necessity for survival. Behind the corruption, greed and deviant behavior are the saviors, philanthropists and good Samaritans finding new purpose and seeing what was previously shrouded in secrecy coming into focus. Rescue missions to save children who were once thought lost. Women are emerging from victim-hood and silence and are standing tall, speaking loudly to insist on sharing her talents with the world. Our vision perception is widening. Compassion for the common man is growing. We are no longer complacent. We are being shaken out of our foggy slumber to see in the darkness, to see what was hidden, to see the beauty that is life and cherish it, cherish each other as absence makes our hearts grow fonder.

In the cover of night, the Earth slumbers and the unseen thrives. Without this darkness, we could not be reborn daily, we could not function, we would cease to exist. Galaxies are born in darkness. Just because light cannot escape the gravitational pull of Black Holes, does not mean that light does not exist within them. Our happiness is simply waiting for our vision to expand, or...we can just know that its there and reach out to embrace it.
