Hitting A Dollar For Reads on A Vocal Story and Other Milestones

We Get Reads and Reads Give Us Money

A lot of people see me as a successful Vocal creator. In some ways I am probably one of the most unsuccessful Vocal creators.

I have posted over 350 stories and have had only one top story, “The Lady of the Water”. While that was written with a lot of love for a special person , I feel I have surpassed it several times, and while I have received about ten awesome stories (bonus but no publicity or close but no cigar) it would seem I am either not good enough for or invisible to Vocal moderators, however I am more than good enough for my Vocal audience and friends that I have met on Facebook and that is who I really write for , plus my own pleasure.

I remember generating my first dollar from overall reads and that excited me so much that I wrote about it here.

Now I have a post that is going to generate a dollar for me from it’s own read count. This is The Never Ending Story with a hundred and sixty five reads that has generated 99c in revenue for me. I know lots of people have posts with a lot more reads than that , and some of them got very aggressive because my overall reads were better than theirs. I just told them to write more.

I must say that after a slow start (and I’m talking maybe two months) I pay my ten dollars to Vocal and since I started I have averaged withdrawals of $40 a month , mainly because I write a lot. I didn’t expect this and am not complaining at all.

I saw someone recently posting on Medium about how much you can make on Vocal showing they had made $311 for fifteen thousand reads, now given that you get about 0.6c a read I think that figure has been doctored, I have about $45 from 7.5K reads , though tips and bonuses have resulted in over $300 return from Vocal in my eight months with them.

So my first article that earned a dollar isn't even a proper article or story at all , it is just a directory that allows me to track my Vocal articles as their search algorithm leaves much to be desired most of the time, but I include this on my Vocal profile so people check it out and it is continually getting more reads , the only noticeable one on my profile.

So do I have anything else to look forward to on Vocal. I may get a bonus for hitting ten thousand reads although that horizon seems to be drifting away at a rate of knots, but if I keep writing and publishing maybe I will hit that, and the reality is that I enjoy writing and I love the feedback and love that I get from my Vocal friends and audience and that is my ultimate goal to keep me and them happy.

My first story that I got a dollar for is not my best and will need some serious re arrangement soon. I’m also worried that because of the volume of my writing it may actually need a further split as well (Music and Poetry already have their own directories and Poetry has over 140 entries and they may need categorising soon too).

Another thing is that thanks to Vocal and my interaction with friends here I have produced my first book.

This is a completely left field thing because I have tried and failed so many times , and thanks to trying to help one of my best Vocal friends I am now a published author (self published) and that would never have happened without Vocal.

So I have hit a few literary milestones this year .

The Dollar for an article is one , making money from writing is another and publishing a book is another. And there it is below.
