Financial burdens, poor health, numerous responsibilities, different things might tip the scales for anyone but in the end, we can feel quite overwhelmed by life at times. It’s easy to start thinking as if you are stuck or even trapped by your life circumstances. It’s important to remember that while we may not be able to choose the things that come into our lives, we can choose how we feel about them.

The Mind Sets the Tone

Your thoughts create a certain tone for your life. I like to think of it as background music. The thoughts, and words you use set the tone. If you have a lot of worries, that’s your tone. A lot of panic, or overwhelm that’s your tone. Maybe your tone is more built on complaining, feeling a victim, or anger. We don’t have one tone but we do tend to have a dominant one. This was set long ago in our formative years.

You Can Change

No matter what tone your mind plays in the background you have the absolute ability to change it. Think of it as changing the dial on a radio. It can be tuned to a different frequency for an entirely different sound.

Change happens when you start observing the thoughts you normally have and work to replace them with something more attuned with what you do want. So, if you want abundance notice when you say anything that is out of alignment with it.

You might catch yourself talking about lack, how you don’t have any money or don’t have any time, or whatever it is you want more of. Words matter, they carry beliefs, set new beliefs. Break your habit of repeating what you don’t want, and start focusing on what you do. The process of switching your focus from what you don’t want to focusing on what you do is like switching gears. It changes everything.

What Do You Want?

Often, we can get so stuck in what we don’t want, that it can take us a minute to answer the question, what do you want?

We want good things to come to us, good health, love, enough time to do the things we love. Here’s the thing, even if you have those things, if your mind is stuck in what you don’t want, it can be hard to receive. You may have a lot but only see what is missing. The mind can work against us in that way.

Clear space by releasing the habit of focusing on what you don’t want, or what hasn’t shown up yet, and on what you do want and what has shown up.

Practice Freedom

Once you have set a new tone, one of joy, harmony, or abundance and once you have swapped what you don’t want for what you do in your thoughts you will feel a sense of freedom. It is vital that you continue to focus on what you do want during this period as the mind is a creature of habit and will revert back to what it knows best.

Daily practice will help retrain your mind to think in terms of what you do want. Visualize your goals as happening, you might even make index cards to remind yourself. Get creative and think of methods that remind you of what you do want. Don’t give up if it takes some time, retaining the mind can take a while. After all, you have thought this way for many years, likely decades. Know that, once you make the initial shift, you will be able to notice some change and a sense of freedom will be a part of it.

Life can be difficult at times, but there is always a way to adjust to it. There is always a reason to hope. The mind can be very stubborn but it is also pliable, trainable. It is up to each one of us to create a mindset that is flexible so that we can keep growing with each and every experience.
