Dawn's Teachings

Enlighten the world like the dawn of every day. And like dawn, be a medium for light to be born. Shower the other with the same affection as if they were your own. Have no exceptions in giving love, for love is the light. Let light be born—become dawn.

Think about what we can learn from dawn. In many cultures across the globe, the break of day is regarded as pious and a moment of universal peace. Experience the fragrance and beauty of the break of dawn. After the long and relatively cold night, a metaphorical stream of hope rushes to our doorstep in the form of the sun’s rays. It is with this hope that we should aim to wake up.

Nothing is achieved in totality at the beginning of any endeavour. So persevere. Put in that raw will power to get out of that heavenly bed. We have two options every morning: either to turn over and keep dreaming, or to wake up and live the dream. Pick the latter! Why? Because the latter option brings more good to our character, to life, and to the world. Why is it that something has to be planned beforehand (e.g. job) for us to wake up early? We should try and wake up early when we don’t have to. One of the biggest hurdles when people wish to get simple things done seems to be laziness. Dawn provides a gentle opportunity regularly to overcome this hurdle. Take this opportunity!

Yes, some may be reading this while actually or mentally rolling their eyes because oh, it sounds too idealistic or difficult or boring or lame. However, for those who want to develop a robust character and actually get somewhere in life both physically and intellectually, do keep reading. It is the simple things such as disciplining to eventually willingly waking up early that are the individual bricks and mortar in the vast empire of our mind. It is up to us how strong and expansive we build the structure. This is the lesson we can learn from dawn, and the opportunity we get offered by it every day.

There are some experiences in life which simply can’t be wrapped in words in order to express to others. The feeling which dawn brings is one which needs to be experienced rather than described. Some of us wake up long after dawn has come and gone, even sleeping into the noon. The first step is to wake up and get out of bed at a time which is AM (11.59 AM does not count). Of course, it is a different matter if your job requires you to sleep during day or through the morning, but this cannot be the case every single day for the rest of life, and it certainly is not the case for the majority of us. Make attempts, because that’s all we can do. Words will fail at explaining the feeling of a consistently well-practiced early morning routine. The only way to comprehend is to experience. The way to experience is to try.

From a personal experience, dawn can be used to catapult the mind into a state of activity. No matter the events of the previous day, dawn is a reminder of a new beginning. If the previous day’s events were good, the new morning says to us: ‘keep working, keep building, keep developing.’ If the previous day’s events were not so good, even bitter and unpleasant, dawn says to us, ‘no matter, here is another opportunity to start on a new page, learn from yesterday’s lessons and keep on working.’ When we install this mindset and work toward our goal, we slowly and progressively feel the powerful effect of dawn on our mind.

Dawn is gentle. Dawn is a fresh beginning. Dawn is another opportunity. It is another chance to try to change position and see things from a different perspective. Let it go not in vain.
