Cheers to you, My 2020

Thank you for the roller coaster of emotions, but please no more alien invasion. You are already epic enough for that.

Dear 2020,

It's already been 330 days since you entered in our world and in just numbered days who knew about the enormous change you've made to the world. Nobody saw it coming. No one was prepared for you. You surprised us, shocked us. You were far more than epic.

You combined both positive and negative energies into the cosmos and confused people whether they're going to make it or break it.

You are a rollercoaster of emotion. Of all the years that had gone by, you are by far the one that overwhelmed us the most.

You are the year who almost had a third world war about to happen within continents and countries;

You are the year which made even the strongest athletes cry after their all-time favorite basketball player died of a plane crash before he even got to receive his award;

You are the year where some of the endangered species become extinct and how half of the animals in the rainforest died due to the wildfire;

You are the year wherein the Stockmarket had hit their all-time lows and came crashing down again;

You are the year where major business had suffered losses and where most of them was left with no choice but to closed down;

You are the year where people once more where judge due to their origin, color, sexuality and because of what they are not;

You are the year where millions of people had loss jobs and shelter and was force to relocate back to where they came from;

You are the year where millions of people had loss their loved ones and the sad part was they loss them without having to say goodbye one last time;

You are the year who forced people to wear face masks all day long;

You are the year who forced people to stay inside their home;

You are the year who almost made the perfect apocalypse happen;

You are the year who had half of the world population in the brink of their sanity.

You made your entry quite unraveling. You made the world question politics, civilization, healthcare, medicine, and law. Everyone was hoping that you will be giving out twice as much what they had during the past years for the reason that you only came once in a millennia. A double year, they say.

On the contrary, I say you did give us what we were asking for but just not in the way we expect. We were blinded by the fact that blessings in life can only be received in rainbows, butterflies, and a leprechaun with a pot of gold but we have forgotten that the best things in life is not about how you reap your rewards but how you made through all your struggles, as life's beauty is found when you're all alone in the meadows, out in a pouring rain in a muddy puddles then suddenly you just learned how to dance your way through it.

You are the year who made the perfect challenge for humanity to even conquer. The problem with people is that we think too much of a situation as a problem rather than as a solution for us to get better. We tend to forget that sometimes in life we have to fallback, experience some setbacks so greater things can come and fall together. We got all too consumed by our negative energies that we forget that even the smallest positive of hope that lies within us can make a difference.

Because truth is:

You are the year who brought the whole world together, you made it possible for the world to connect and rely on each other's differences just to combat the virus. You taught the world how teamwork can make a difference.

You taught the world the importance of their priorities in life when you forced people on staying inside their homes, families become closer than ever.

You did not take away socialization, you actually strengthen the bond that there is especially with the technology nowadays. Absence makes the love more fonder and the fear of not being able to see them makes them crave for them the most.

You are the year where people and all those who are victims of racism had the courage to stand up to their oppressors and speak their voice out.

You are the year who made it possible for us to go back in time, to relive in a time where 10pm means to stay inside your houses and cuddle with your loved ones, that drive-in theaters are way lit than indoor ones, and how outdoor dining are way magical and memorable than indoor ones. Technology is cool and all but there are things in life that can never be replaced no matter how cool it is. Classic will always beat Modern anytime, just like originality will always win over a copy-cat and you reminded that to us.

Lastly, you taught us how to work on what we got, given the strain in resources we still manage to go through.

There's still 30 days left of you before you finally depart this world and I say, you have taught humanity the life lessons no year has ever taught them before. You taught them the value of creativity, camaraderie, and courage. You taught us how to face our darkest fears in the darkest of times, you taught us when to rely on ourselves and when to seek help in the midst of a crisis.

I guess, you will never be forgotten. History books will now be rewritten and add you but only those who lived your year will know the real you.

You are already epic enough, will you depart smoothly or will you bring in alien invasion before you depart - I hope not.

Thank you 2020!!!

XOXO,

From the girl who become wise and strong
