I remember clearly waking up to the news way back in 2012 that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band was finally coming to South Africa in early 2013.

I could not contain the excitement. I was the kid that instantly loved their music from the very first time I saw them perform on TV. I think I must have been about 8 years old.

I am never a person who gets star-struck. However, I am a person who will always appreciate good music. Music that has deep meaning. Music that brings out the emotions of positive energy, deep happiness, joy and that mindset that all is going to be okay.

Yes! I know what you are probably thinking, there are many musicians out there that can do this to their fans. Yes, and I totally agree with you. However, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band have something extremely special. They connect with their fans in such an intense and electrifying manner.

For goodness sake, most of the band members are past retirement age. That being said, they do not look like they are slowing down anytime soon. Bruce Springsteen is going to be 75 this September. Max Weinberg the drummer turns 73 this month and Steven Van Zandt turns 74 in November.

I remember the day of the concert in 2013 so very clearly. My brother and I made sure we got into the stadium early to get a good spot. Both of us were huge fans so we had to get golden circle tickets.

The crowd was building; however, it was still some time to go before the concert started. As we were sitting on the floor chatting and killing time, Mr Springsteen came out on stage. Just him and his guitar. Everyone who was lucky enough to come in early got up on their feet and started cheering. Most of us could not believe that he came out to the crowd about 4 hours before the main concert could start. He sang a few songs before returning backstage, saying he will be back later.

You can only imagine what this did to the crowd! From that point one could feel the energy levels and it just got better and better.

At one point during the concert, it started raining. I started getting disappointed because I thought it was going to affect the performance and the general vibe of the concert. Boy oh Boy!!! Was I totally wrong! Bruce Springsteen just picked up the energy even more with the rain. I have no idea how the instruments didn’t get damaged, or maybe it did — I will never know. Bruce Springsteen and some of the band members literally danced and sang in the rain. The rain actually made the concert so much more fun!

These guys do it for the sheer passion of music. One can clearly see and experience that. Their performances are generally close to 3 hours plus. The South African concert was 3 hours and 20 minutes plus the time he sang a few songs when he came out early.

At the end of a Bruce Springsteen concert one is left in an indescribable high. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band are not just musicians. They are world class performers of a uniquely different class. They are actors and storytellers.

They definitely do inspire me. It is never too late to enjoy your life! As we grow older, we need to constantly remind ourselves that our time on earth is indeed very limited. However, with this limited time we can be superstars by being there for one another.

Live everyday like a rock-star, because you are! We all are! We just need to believe it more!

Until next time, keep rocking! Before I sign off, I thought I would include a short video below, that further emphasizes this blog. Take Care!
