On the Road to A New Year

Dearest Donna:

Well, you did it girl! You survived 2020 without getting COVID, without another heart attack or major surgery. You survived it with only one death in the family and even though he was 101 when he passed, your uncle will be sorely missed.

Now, what are you going to do with this gift of a new year, 2021? How do you plan on surviving this year? How do you intend to spend the time that has been given to you in this new year? I think you need a game plan, my dear.

You need a plan of action that takes into consideration all the what-ifs that could occur, as well as the if-nots that probably will occur. So, let us start with any goals you have in mind. Do you want to get rich and famous? If so, then you better get started on that novel you have been meaning to write. Oh wait, I forgot, you have started it. But two chapters does not make a book.

Okay, so if you are not planning on finishing the novel, then what are you going to do differently this year from 2020? Tell me your thoughts, put them into words, so I can hear or see what exactly will be different. What will you do now that you have a fresh start? Will you procrastinate until the cows come home or will you jump on every opportunity that comes your way? How is this year going to be different for you than 2020 was?

I bet you do not really know, but like the sunsets on your vision board, you will strive to see every single day end with the sun setting on the horizon and the faith that it will rise again the very next morning. That is not much of a game plan, but when you have faced death due to COVID and a bad heart, seeing sunsets can become a major goal. If there is one thing that 2020 has taught all of us this year, it is that tomorrow is not promised and today is a gift so relish each day of 2021 like it is the best present you have ever received.

The year 2020 was not pretty by any means. Hurricanes causing major damage, riots that destroyed lives as well as property, wildfires that devastated a record 47 million acres of land and claimed 30 some people were part of this year from hell. Even the "royal" family took a hit. Plus, a helicopter accident which never should have happened took the lives of Gianna and Kobe Bryant along with seven others. That incident alone made me cry buckets of tears. And then along came COVID-19 and a pandemic to match ones of old. That is all the bad news I can bring up right now, but there is more, especially if you want me to talk about politics. Not happening!

I am not sure dear Donna what you will change but in the scheme of things just putting one foot in front of the other and breathing with every step may end up being your biggest accomplishments for the time being. Time will tell you if you are ready for bigger steps and greater deeds. For now, relish in this new beginning and hope for the best.

So, bring on 2021. Bring on the sunsets and the sunrises. Bring on the future chapters of my novel. Bring on peace and tranquility. Bring on faith and hope. But most of all 2021, bring on health, happiness, and the choice to live each day to its fullest with no regrets. Bring it on!

Sincerely,

Your Life
