There was a time when I thought my life is over. I had often heard the phrase “There is always light in the end of the tunnel” and believe me, I used to encourage the people with the same popular phrase . But Alas, some things are only good for preaching. When you go through the unending darkness of tunnel where you do not see the light, you shattered into the pieces. I had broken into many pieces. I had lost the hope to continue in the life. Always known to be the ‘counselor and the encourager’ had none to pacify. Or just say none of the encouragement worked. Because there was war inside of me, the anger and the frustration and all the ‘why me’ had piled up in my heart.
You know what, one of the greatest enemy of the person is ‘why me’ attitude which is also called self-pity. Believe me, I didn’t know that earlier. When someone tried to tell me about it, I just snapped at him. I was somewhat happy with self pity. I was looking for validation from others, I would always be eager to hear that, “oh my God, S……. You are so brave, you are handling this, you have gone through so much and still you are standing”. I wanted people to pity me for my situation.
Let me tell you something, everyone has problems in their life. We may think that the problem the other person is facing is nothing in front of what I am going through. But the fact is, the same problem what we think small may be the giant mountain for the other person. So, it should never be compared. I did the mistake of comparing my problem with the other. I thought that I have the biggest problem in my life, oh pity me. Honestly speaking, when I look back and see, it affected my mental health more than the actual problems.
You may think what might be the problems as I have not mentioned it before. Let me tell you about the holistic which incorporates every aspect of life. Similarly, i was going through a lot in every aspect of my life, be it physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. Every aspect in my life was disrupted. I had my family problems, I was not in the safe place emotionally, I was broken badly, I was not doing well physically and I was drifing away spiritually. I didn’t see hope, I didn’t want to live anymore. I was just surviving because I still had breath. On top of that, I used to self pity. You won’t believe I used to pray for death.
But the good news is, there is truly the light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to persevere and wait for you to get there. That would be very hard. On the way to the end of the tunnel where there is light, you have to go through self reflection. Nothing teaches you more than a hardship does. People complain about the hardship, but it is only the way you can become a better version of yourself. I know when I say this, you won’t believe me and you may say me to put my feet on your shoes to know how hard it is. However, this is the ultimate truth. When we endure and persevere through the hardships, we emerge as a better person. Our Character develops, our mindset changes, our perspective shifts. We become more compassionate, more considerate and understanding and more accepting rather than judging. This is the beauty of being victorious, victorious from our own old self, raising from ashes to victory.
I believe in God and I raise from ashes to victory with His grace and help alone. I realized that He is the light at the end of the tunnel which people talked about. I found the light, so can you.
