All is Fair?

a deep look at what defines fairness in the human race

Life isn't fair. We all hear the phrase but it seems that the word "fair" loses its meaning the further we look at it. Sporting event do their best to make the game as fair as possible. But how can you account for skill, injury and even just the events that go on in the background. "If we stayed healthy" or if that call that seemingly everyone knew was wrong wasn't applied we would've won. Nothing can be totally fair because to consider life absolutely fair would be to consider every human absolutely equal which cannot be the case.

In pop culture we find ourselves watching from the outside as celebrities live the life that would be ideal to any human living on earth. Healthy, wealthy and thriving. gritting our teeth as we watch "talent-less" people inherent billions of dollars just because of their placement in this world. We cheer the celebrities that made it on their own from poverty to prosperity, thinking if only that was you. If only you had that much talent. If only you found a bag of $10k or a millionaire who decides to give you 100k randomly on the street. Life isn't fair. Life isn't equal. The more we decide on dwelling on the prosperity of others the more we use "fairness" as a security blanket.

Somethings we take for granted. Many poverty stricken villages in third world countries with children not given a chance to write their own story. Falling ill and dying due to lack of nourishment. Men and women killed by strokes of accidents that they had no part in. Others having their lives taken without a chance to say goodbye. Our chances of death at any given moment is never 0%. No one knows the exact time we are due on this Earth so we push the idea to the back of our head until an event makes you question your mortality. Are any of us ready to die? What is the purpose of us living? There is no purpose of life. There is no fairness in life. There is no fairness in nature. Lions hunt their prey with no idea of fairness. Zebras don't get a "head-start" or a "handicap". There is no system in place to guarantee that the lion will eat tonight. Lions often pick off the sick prey to conserve energy. They don't let the sick one off because it would be "too easy" So why is it that humans create these restrictions and conditions in the sake of fairness? Our moral compass is the backbone of fairness. Even in the chaos of war do humans desperately look for a way to even the playing field. If an enemy solider is surrendering you may not take his life. No chemical warfare because the effect is catastrophic. Those who don't follow these rules are considered war criminals and our punished immensely. For a deeper look into this idea one could look at he Nuremberg Trials. These horrendous acts that the Axis powers displayed during the second World War were put on trial. Many of these war criminals were sentenced to life in prison or death. Many times we find ourselves asking; what if the allied powers lost? surely these war criminals would not be put on trial and would've gotten away with all their horrendous acts. But since the Allies didn't these crimes did not go unpunished.

Looking back on all the historic people in life we see that they all had different background. Born into poverty or prosperity. Yes, we see the background these people had but the issue that matters is what they did with the life they were given. There is no such thing as fairness in life because we are all not equal. We have our different strengths and weaknesses. Our different backgrounds make us who we are and who we will be. The absence of fairness only means one thing. We must live our life. Do the things we want to do. Take the route to prosperity we see fit and worry not of the ones who have achieved this goal. We only have one objective in this life. To live.
