Whether it's for Fitness or Life

One of the biggest problems many people face when it comes to fitness is either the motivation to start or the motivation to continue. Even if you're 3 or 4 months into your fitness lifestyle there may be a day where you're just not feeling it, everyone goes through it at some point. When it comes to fitness, consistency is key to reaching your goals! Now, I'm not saying you can't have your off days, we're only human and they are much needed.

The problem arises when 1 day becomes 1 week, which is why they say you should never go 3 days without training. Motivation and discipline go hand in hand in keeping yourself going, but not all of us have developed the discipline to overcome the days where motivation is taking a vacation and has decided to join us in spending the day in bed. Most of our motivation comes from wanting to reach the goal we have set for ourselves but that isn't our only source to get our butts up and into gear. Here are my top 14 favorite motivational quotes to help you dig deep and pull that motivation out from within you and eventually lead to an improved and more disciplined you.

1.

You're as young as you'll ever be, do you want to spend your last few years wishing you had or being grateful you did? Every day is a new opportunity to improve on yourself, don't let it slip by! Funny story about this one, my dad gave me a watch that counts down from your estimated death date, morbid? Maybe, but let me tell you something, nothing gets you more motivated to do something than watching your life tick away. (Who doesn't love those father son moments that reminds you of your impending mortality, thanks dad!)

2.

A very important reminder to us from the creator of a certain mouse franchise, that we have the capability to make a dream a reality, that dream bod of yours is right there waiting for you! Courage is that moment you step out of your comfort zone and into the realm of the unknown. It takes knowing the unknown for a dream to grow.

3.

Gandhi is one of my favorite wise men, he has many things to say about the betterment of self and mankind and this quote is non the lesser. Sure, strength comes with training and developing muscles but what comes before even having to move a weight? The thought of doing it! Whenever someone asks me how I'm able to do something, I'll jokingly, heroically proclaim "Shear will power!" which could not be more true. If I'm unable do something or second guessing myself then I need to tap into and develop that will power in order to push myself to take action in order to overcome the challenge.

4.

It's so easy to take a beating and just lay there on the ground, physically or metaphorically. If we stay down, that's it! The bell rings and the title of failure or loser hangs heavy over our head. But failure is only failure when you stop, getting back up on our feet and taking the challenge head on once again, is the mark of a champion, because that could be the one round or the one moment that you hit back and come out victorious.

5.

For a man the size of Mauna Kea, it's hard to believe The Rock has had his challenges but if you read or listen to his story, the man has overcome much hardship in his life! Now instead of anything standing between him and his success, he stands between anything that tries to come against it. Become the mountain that protects your success by constantly building yourself up towards it. If you're the one in the way of yourself, it's time to turn that version of you into bedrock.

6.

I'm no stranger to just giving up on what I had to do because it wasn't what I wanted to do, but I've learned very quickly that unless you want to end up on the streets, you have to put the time in on the things that will get you somewhere. This is no different when building your body or burning the fat away, if you want it, you have to take all the steps to get there, there's no quick fix in order to reach your goal! The hardest part is often the beginning because you're laying the foundation for what's to come, it may not be fun at first but it's necessary.

7.

These last few years have taught me a lot about patience. From fitness to relationships and business, things take time, especially if done properly. By the time you start seeing results, hitting goals or taking bigger steps, your sense of pride and accomplishment is on a whole other level and it's often not because of that moment, but because of all it took to get there.

8.

FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT! (with in reason of course, I'm not saying just lie without action!) Belief comes from within, but it isn't always easy to just believe in yourself especially if you're doing something new or have had failings in the past that are holding you back. Simply start by faking the confidence you need in the mirror just before you're about to walk into a gym and pick up that weight. Fake confidence, followed by action, becomes real confidence and real confidence becomes real belief.

9.

Perfection does not exist except within idealism! Things or people may seem or be perfect for you but they are not themselves perfect. However we all want to be perfect right? Well how would you get there if it were possible? By becoming better! How do you become better? By putting in the little bit of effort that you didn't before and what is this called? Progress! Becoming better only takes 1% more effort than the previous day. Progress is realistic, perfection is not.

10.

Your goal is your gift to yourself, I'm sure most of us love receiving gifts. Who better to give you the best gift than yourself and not only that but knowing the time and effort that was put into procuring it! If you had all the money in the world and could buy the best present ever, would you go and buy that cheap knock off that'll break in a couple of weeks? NO! Your body is no different and your currency is your time and effort, you're not paying for it all at once either. You're getting the best installment plan that could possibly be offered and a seat in the director's chair, making changes as you see fit so that it's just right and one of a kind.

11.

Failing has been one of my biggest fears because I always expected things to be perfect, but as we know now, perfection is unrealistic. So what do we make of failings? Well as I've said before, here and in my article about self affirmations, failing to fail is success because failure can only be deemed as failure if that's where we stop, otherwise it's simply a learning step. When you see it as a learning step you can be enthusiastic about how to do it better next time.

12.

As a geek and a Star Wars fan I had to throw this one in! Many people will often say, "Oh but there is such as thing as trying!"... Really? So did you get out of bed or did you stay in it, did you go to the gym or did you not? Unless you have somehow cracked the secrets of quantum physics and can exist in both states at once (by the way if you have, peeps would pay top dollar for that info), "I tried" is simply "I thought about it but didn't put it into action".

13.

How will you know if you're capable of doing something until you've given it everything you've got? You won't! Your body changes every single day throughout your life as a natural occurrence, which means you can easily point it in the direction of the change you want. It will take work, but it's not impossible, you're the only one stopping yourself. Kind of crazy to think the impossible is pretty much only set by you, wouldn't you say?

Motivation is something we can all use in most aspects of our life and isn't just limited to fitness. You can probably use most of these to help inspire you towards any goal you set before yourself. Remember to not simply "try" to do something, because that 14."Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly." —G. K. Chesterton (Did you think I was lying? Mwahaha).

Doing something is better than not doing it at all and you'll eventually get better at it. Just make sure when it comes to fitness you work on your form as much as possible, that's something I do not recommend doing poorly as it will more often than not lead to some serious injuries. Now go out there and crush those fitness and life goals, you're the only one stopping yourself!
