Jane Goodall.

Throughout history, fiction, television, theater, personal encounters, poetry…well you get the point. Everywhere, all the time, there are phrases uttered which speak to the grittiest parts of our souls, that tell us to keep moving, to keep growing, loving, exploring, and diving deeper into our passions. These are the phrases, the little keys, that unlock another hour of midnight work, that prompted us to lift the weights a little higher, to hold on a little longer. They cover the world and time, yet so many are forgotten or lost. So here is a reminder of some quotes that I think say all of that, from some amazing women in science!

Mae Jemison.

An ASTRONAUT, EDUCATOR, and DOCTOR born in 1956 who is principal of THE 100 Year Starship Project and was the first african-american woman in space.

Jocelyn Bell Burnell.

“If we assume we’ve arrived at the absolute truth, we stop searching, we stop developing.” -Jocelyn Bell Burnell. An ASTROPHYSICIST born in 1943, who discovered a new type of star: A Pulsar. She was also president of the ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY in 2002-2004.

Jane Goodall.

Rachel Carson.

Karen Horney.

A PSYCHOANALYST born in 1885 who was the founder and later dean of The American Institute for Psychoanalysis. She is also the author of many books, such as the popular: THE NEUROTIC PERSONALITY OF OUR TIME.

Grace Hopper.

-Grace Hopper. A NAVY ADMIRAL and COMPUTER SCIENTIST born in 1906 who received The Defense Distinguished Service Medal and created the first complex computer language, COBOL.

Marie Curie.

-Marie Curie. A PHYSICIST and CHEMIST born in 1867 who discovered the elements POLONIUM and RADIUM. She also received two Nobel Prizes in her lifetime, being the first to win a Nobel Prize in two different disciplines.

Lisa Meitner.

“Life need not be easy, provided only it was not empty.” -Lise Meitner. A PHYSICIST born in 1887 who explained and discovered the workings of nuclear fission as well as discovered the element PROTACTINIUM with her lab partner Otto Hahn.
