Sometimes we may feel like we're not good enough, or that we could do better if only we tried harder. But the truth is, you are already good enough - and you always will be.

Why is self-esteem important?

Self-esteem is our opinion of ourselves. It’s the way we see and judge our own worth.

People with healthy self-esteem feel confident and proud of themselves most of the time. They know they're not perfect, but they still like and accept themselves. They don't compare themselves to others and they don't let others put them down. People with low self-esteem may feel unworthy, unlovable, or incompetent. They often spend a lot of time comparing themselves to others and focusing on their own flaws.

Building self-esteem can be hard, especially if you've had it low for a long time. But it's worth working on feeling better about yourself - because when you do, you'll be more likely to reach your goals, feel happier, and enjoy your life more. Keep on reading for tips on how to build up your self-esteem.

Acknowledge your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem.

Your accomplishments reflect your hard work and dedication - so don't belittle them! Acknowledge what you've done, no matter how big or small, and give yourself credit where it's due.

Be kind to yourself. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to a friend.

Talk to yourself in a kind, positive way. Avoid putting yourself down or using negative self-talk. Instead of saying "I can't believe I made that mistake," try telling yourself "Everyone makes mistakes sometimes - I'm learning from mine and I'll do better next time."

Avoid self-criticism. Accept yourself and learn to love yourself.

We all have things we'd like to change about ourselves. But it's important to accept ourselves for who we are. Focus on your positive qualities, not your negative ones. For example, instead of beating yourself up for not doing perfect, focus on the fact that you're doing your best.

Set realistic goals for yourself and strive to accomplish as many as possible.

Don't strive for perfection - it's not possible, and it's not necessary. Set goals that are challenging but achievable, so you can feel proud of what you accomplish.

Spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself.

Surround yourself with people who support and accept you. Avoid spending time with people who put you down or make you feel bad about yourself. People who make you feel good about yourself will help you to see your own worth.

Avoid comparing yourself to others - everyone is unique and special in their own way.

You are unique and special, just the way you are. There is no one else like you in the world. So don't compare yourself to others - it's not fair to you, and it will only make you feel bad about yourself.

Do something nice for someone else every day, without expecting anything in return.

Helping others is a great way to feel good about yourself. When you do something nice for someone, it makes you feel good - and it also makes the other person feel good. It's a win-win situation!

Take care of yourself - mind, body, and soul.

When you take care of yourself, you're sending the message that you're worth taking care of. So make sure to eat healthy, exercise, get enough sleep, and do things that make you happy.

Be assertive - stand up for yourself and your beliefs.

Don't let others control you or put you down. Be confident in yourself and your beliefs, and stand up for yourself when necessary.

Make a list of things you like about yourself, both inside and out.

Take some time to really think about the things you like about yourself, both inside and out. Write them down and refer to them when you're feeling down about yourself.

The benefits of having high self-esteem are numerous. When you love and accept yourself, you're more likely to reach your goals, feel happier, and enjoy your life more. And isn't that what we all want?
