The Biggest 2020 Trend Post-Covid That Needs To Die

This is the trend that no one saw coming! I mean it was so quick and steadfast and it even went Global. This was the fastest most sort after trend that I've ever seen in my entire life.

2020 was a year that was supposed to be monumental. Although it will be remembered in all the history books, it definitely isn't what anyone alive could've even fathomed happening let alone living it firsthand.

This time period of Quarantine is something that many people will live to share with their children and grandchildren.

When It First Began

It just sprang up on us in March of 2020. And the rest is history. Literally.

I worked for the Board of Education and I remember it like it was yesterday. It was on a Friday we got a suspicious email blast that said give your students two weeks of work by the end of the day in case we don't return on the following Monday.

All of the staff immediately had that what the heck is going on look on our faces. People started freaking out. But most of us were sad, not for us but for our children. We see our students as one of our own so we were deeply hurt.

My Principal happily works weekends and loves to give us agenda too while we rather sip Mai tai's and lounge in our pajamas and watch Hulu. After reading the email he sent I went numb. He said he didn't know when we'd eventually come back to school and it has to be virtual for at least two weeks.

Next thing I knew, I turn on the news and I see reports saying that we must wear face masks to enter into establishments otherwise you couldn't go in and shop for your needs.

When Unexpected Trends Become A Millionaire Business

I must say that this was one trend that undeniably made people millions and fueled many careers in Entrepreurship. There were people selling masks high and low. Online videos popped up sharing tips on how to make homemade masks which included stencils, arts and crafts, glitter as well as bling otherwise known as rhinestones.

I even saw people selling masks online at the two most shopped sites. Sales were off the charts at Walmart and Amazon. There were tons of places who sold it in bulk for wholesale prices because they knew that this was a new reality and we had no choice but to adapt and follow suit.

I went to the Grocery store and saw a family of three selling masks outside in the parking lot for children and adults. It seems that there was money being generated whether it was just a side hustle or a steady income since the pandemic forced many business to shut down and millions of people lost their jobs.

The Reality Of The Face Mask Trend

In America many people were under the impression that once the two week out of school virtual task set in place to stop any spread from happening. It extended to the rest of the school year and it shut down til June of 2020. Many people became tiresome of wearing the masks when the Summer time came.

People everywhere were walking around in 95 degree heat wave weather with sweat dripping down their faces, necks and their backs.

I recall a waiter at a Mexican restaurant I went to in Queens New York that had outside seating and the waitress was wearing a mask with a face full of sweat and then it happened. As she leaned over with her notepad to take our order a huge sweat droplet dripped slowly off her face and onto the table.

Initially I was mortified. I didn't know whether I should get upset or leave the restaurant. But then I thought to myself is it really her fault. Most employees said that their bosses specifically told them that there is no questioning the masks because if they don't wear it they can and will be fired.

Around the world countries besides China and the United Stated were shut down by the middle of 2020. Many angry civilians took to social media and sent death threat to politicians.

There were protests and chaos in tons of cities that ended in violence and unfortunate deaths. We had no choice to bear witness to this catastrophe. It was everywhere you turned on every news channel station, newspaper and social media platform. You just couldn't get away from it. How did something meant to do a good deed get this bad?

This is one trend that I will not miss and will be excited to see go. I hope that this year brings back mental peace and a sense of normalcy again that we once had pre-covid. The bigger picture should be achieved and that is a brotherhood and love amongst each other because we all are one!
