You can argue that meditation, yoga, or even taking a nap is different and efficient ways to relieve yourself from stress. However, listening to music is one of the best ways in which you can get your dopamine juices flowing. Each one of us can have our own playlist to calm our nerves, and here is my exclusive list.

Check out my list that calms me even in the most stressful situations.

Weightless – Marconi Union

Marconi is popular English ambient band music. They worked with sound therapists to create the most relaxing music out there. One study shows that this song induces more than 65% stress reduction among all the participants.

Lyz Cooper from the British Academy of sound therapy explains that this song uses a musicological phenomenon popularly known as “entrainment”. “The song contains a sustaining rhythm that starts at 60 beats per minute and gradually slows to around 50. While listening, your heart rate gradually comes to match that beat,” reports Cooper.

The song is a series of tones from natural soundscapes and is not a melody in the technical sense. There is an oscillating chord that stays constant throughout the song. Eventually, this chord makes you easily hypnotic. You can practically experience the sound wave waxing and waning.

Every time I listen to “Weightless”, I sink into a different headspace. In case you stop the video somewhere in the middle, you will feel totally lost. Additionally, you will need a couple of minutes to regain your head.

Mellomaniac – DJ Shah

The repetitive music pattern makes the song so relaxing. This music repetition helps to free the mind rather than analyze it. The beats are a bit mellow and even sensual at different places.

This song conjures up visions of enjoying and sipping away something cool and frozen on a tropical island. “Mellomaniac” is made from a congo-like drum and rainstick to create the perfect beats.

Watermark – Enya

“Only time” by Enya is a classic that everyone loves. Although it is an equally relaxing song, “Watermark” is slightly better. With the simple yet lovely piano arrangement, one can find the subtle chorus of the human voices.

It Grows Like A Plant

The synthesizer helps to create a white noise that layers with the chorus. This combination offers relaxation and tranquility at great levels. Instead of spending on a white noise machine, go for this beautiful composition of a song and thank me later.

Electra – Airstream

This song is oddly similar to “Weightless”, however is unique in its own ways. Did you know that the optimal resting heart rate of a person is between 60-65 beats per minute? This song maintains the tempo to match up to that heartbeat to perfection.

Music is very less taxing on the nervous system. The song is just perfect because of the mid-range frequencies along with the absence of low and heavy bass. Furthermore, the song has a “chiller” vibe to it that has more of a hip-hop beat to it. However, the beats are within the relaxing degrees and not towards the extreme ends.

Furthermore, the yoga fans can find the music just perfect for the background when they work on their sun salutations.

Strawberry Swing, Coldplay

This is one of the best songs on the list with lyrics. Hence, it is a true testament to prove that music need not be wordless to offer relaxation.

The lyrics contribute to more of a carefree vibe. Furthermore, the video is so much fun to watch. The song offers more contentment than relaxation per se, but totally worth it. Don’t miss it out.

Pure Shores – All Saints

Pure Shores is a critically acclaimed dream-pop relaxing song. It features the classic and pure 2000s vibes since it was released that year. The visuals take you to prance along picturesque shorelines of a beach. You can get a clear picture if you watch the popular Leonardo DiCaprio movie, “The Beach”.

The lyrics keep you alert and relaxed simultaneously. Additionally, yoga practitioners expect the same from you. Hence, the song makes to my top list of relaxing songs although it is uplifting and groovy. “Pure shores” deserves a spot at the top for sure.

Someone like You – Adele

Someone like you earned a lot of accolades include Grammy. According to research, everything about the song breaks the audience down to tears.

Sometimes one cannot fathom why this depressing song is relaxing. But one of the best ways to find comfort is to let it all go and cry it out. “When the chorus breaks, Adele’s voice jumps an octave and belts out the notes with increasing volume,” the Daily Mail wrote.

They added, “At the same time, the harmony shifts and the lyrics become more dramatic.”

Each of the songs in the playlist has a unique and distinct style. They share some common elements like white noise, low-to-mid tempo, and simple arrangements. Add these songs to your chill-out playlist and find yourself more relaxed than ever. Comfort songs transport you to far-away exotic lands to help release all the stress. Enjoy the compositions and have a great time.
