Dr. Tanveer Bhutani’s Interview

March 11, 2021 By Tanveer Bhutani In Arthritis, joint replacement, Knee Arthroscopy, Knee Pain, Knee Replacement procedure No Comments

We got an opportunity to meet Dr. Tanveer Bhutani, a renowned orthopedic surgeon, sports injury specialist, Head of Department, and Founder at Eva Hospital, Ludhiana, Punjab.

He specializes in the treatment of Hip, Knee, Elbow, and other joint replacements, Nerve and tendon injuries, and treatment of arthritis. We’ve asked some of the most commonly asked questions, such as safe surgery nowadays, innovative therapies, winter joint care, and more. Read on to learn the important knowledge he imparted.

Question: What are the options for joint replacement surgery to cure knee arthritis?

Dr. Bhutani: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a good option for joint replacement for the early stages of knee arthritis. In this procedure, the affected knee joint is injected with blood plasma’s growth factors. For this therapy, the patient’s blood is drawn and processed to obtain platelet-filled plasma.

PRP contains growth hormones, proteins, antibodies, and many other important components that help the knee to heal naturally. It regenerates cartilage growth as well as aids in the lubrication of joints. Numerous patients have procured benefit from this treatment. The outcomes are satisfactory.

It is a very safe procedure, minimally invasive, and reduces the painful symptoms and discomfort of the patient to a great extent. Most importantly, your reliance on painkillers is minimized.

Question: People usually want to delay joint replacement surgery until it is absolutely necessary. is it fair? Especially in the case of knees?

Dr. Bhutani: Well, I would not suggest delaying the surgery if the doctor recommended it.

See, each case is different. We diagnose each patient based on bone health, joint position, lifestyle, age, and level of pain or discomfort to suggest treatment. We have a competent team of experts for this. After considering all the criteria, if the team suggests a joint replacement, one should not delay it.

You will find that delaying surgery puts pressure on the knee for a long time and can make it worse. This not only makes it difficult for a person to lead a normal life but also makes recovery after surgery a lengthy process.

Question: Can anyone safely move forward with a common change in the current era of the Covid-19 epidemic?

Dr. Bhutani: Yes, of course. You can take a closer look at the many high-tech safety precautions we are taking at Eva Orthopedic Center. We follow government Instructions for Treatment.

Doctors, as well as health staff, wear PPE equipment. Continuous rigorous sterilization is done. The patients are also asked to visit the clinic alone. A partner is only allowed if absolutely necessary.

In addition, we take great care to make the patient feel safe and discharge him as soon as possible. The epidemic scene is also improving. In Ludhiana, the flow of corona has become smoother and the incidence of viruses and deaths is decreasing day by day.

Question: Now that the weather is getting cold, do winters affect knee injury?

Dr. Bhutani: Well, if the knees are already painful, symptoms may increase in cold weather if necessary precautions are not taken. First, at lower temperatures, the muscles have to work harder to do the same movements that they do more easily in the summer. The knees have a fluid that lubricates the joint and facilitates pain-free movement.

Like all liquids, this liquid becomes slightly turbid at low temperatures and does not move freely around the joint as it is in the summer. So people who have injured joints find their knees a little stiff and sore in the winter.

Second, due to the pressure (in the air) of the barometer, the tissues have to expand as a natural reaction. This can further cause a stretch in the veins, causing pain.

To Cure this, you should always wear warm pants and preferably a compressed band on a delicate knee to keep it warm.
