Don’t we love it when the first flower blooms in the garden? Suggesting a fresh and joyful start, it infuses our lives with a sense of relief, a relief that good times are nearby. But as much as our plants love to grow and bloom, so do the weeds out there. In no time these plants take over our beloved garden and swallow them under their wild growth. Those pesky plants always seem to find a way to sprout up in the most inconvenient places. However, don't worry, with a few simple tips and tricks, you can stop weed growth in your home garden and keep your plants happy and healthy.

Mulch it up

Mulch has always been an inseparable part of Earth’s flora. It is because it serves an excellent purpose in the growth process. Mulching is an excellent way to suppress weed growth. A thick layer of mulch can help to smother any weed seeds that are trying to germinate. Plus, it's great for retaining moisture in the soil and adding nutrients. This can help your plants in numerous ways and thereby promote their growth by providing ideal soil conditions.

Dig it out

If you have a farmer or gardener in your family, ask that person about how s/he used to deal with the weeds. The most common answer you might hear is, ‘we used to pull them out with hands’. Sometimes the best way to get rid of weeds is to dig them out by hand. It may take a bit of elbow grease, but it's an effective method. Make sure to get as much of the root system as possible to prevent regrowth.

When you pull out plants by their roots, you deny them any further chances of bouncing back to life. Plants are stubborn when it comes to revival. You might think that it is gone, but deep down they wait for the right time.

Use weed barriers?

Although this is not always the best method, you still may use it in extreme conditions. Weed barriers are great for preventing weed growth in specific areas of your garden. They come in a variety of materials, including plastic, fabric, and even recycled newspaper. Just lay the barrier down on the soil and cut holes for your plants to grow through. This way, you filter out the plants you love and deny growth to plants you hate. You may simply buy these weed barriers from stores or sites dealing in home and garden products.

Get your hands on a hoe

The tools in your tool-chest are there for a reason. Gardening tools are a great way to shape your garden the way you want. Among the many tools out there, a hoe is a handy tool for cutting off weed seedlings before they have a chance to take root. It's best to use a hoe on dry soil to ensure that the weeds don't re-root. Not only is it handy, you also get your hands and body moving, thereby helping yourself with enhanced health. If you don’t have any tools, simply buy these from an eBay alternative at a competitive price.

Remember, a weed-free garden isn't just about aesthetics. Weeds can compete with your plants for nutrients, water, and sunlight, which can ultimately harm their growth. It is like having uninvited visitors in your home for years and years thereafter, consuming your ration and bulking you down. So take these simple steps to keep your garden healthy and looking beautiful! After all, if you want those beautiful blooms, you need to work for those to happen.
