Used as a mat on the floor or laid in front of the prayer carpeted surface, it provides a place for the prayer attendant to kneel and prostrate. It also protects them from dirt, dust, and debris that might otherwise fall to the ground. When laying the mat, one should make sure that it is laid in a straight line, with no curves or circles. These can be called "drip pray rugs," as they help in the proper placement of the body. Lay one end of the mat on the floor, the opposite ends on top of the carpet so that they would overlap each other.

Prayer mats can come in different designs, made from a variety of materials. Silk prayer rugs are considered to be expensive in the UK and are often used only in prayer rooms or mosques. Silk luxury prayer mat are available in various shades and hues. The darker the color, the more luxurious the accessory. The texture and the thickness of the rug will determine how deep into the ground it will sink.

For worshipers in some countries, cigarette smoke is a big problem, and cigarette residue and mold can form on prayer rugs. So, when buying prayer rugs, try to avoid smoking near the piece. Also, make sure that you purchase a rug from a reputable store where the carpet is manufactured.

Ottoman prayer rugs date back to the 6th century. They are a symbol of religion for many peoples, and they were originally made from wool felt, which was a major source of income for the wealthy in those days.

Chinese prayer rugs are very beautiful, but a lot of worshipers have a hard time keeping them clean. These rugs have an important role in the spiritual worship of Islam. During Friday prayers, a person must wash his hands before touching the object of worship. There are many different types of prayer rugs based on fabric and embroidery. One can find them in plain colors like white, red, blue, and black grey prayer mat, or in rich and intricate patterns like floral, zebra, palm tree, serpents, and roses.

The colors were always vivid and extravagant, and they were also sometimes beautifully stitched with colorful threads. The felt was usually soaked in dates, and then the knots were painted with gold, silver, brass, and other metals.

Wool was always prized for making prayer rugs, and the most luxurious of them were also the most beautiful. Nowadays, many wool fibers are synthetic, but there are still a few that are pure. They have been produced with an eye to using the organic materials available in Africa, although they come from other places as well. If you don't want a rug that has been through such intensive care, it is important to avoid smoking near prayer rugs, or else they will begin to smell after a while. You must also avoid smoking close to the rug, as that can cause it to turn black.

In Islamic countries and other countries like the United kingdom, when a person is about to pray, he does not necessarily sit on a prayer mat, but on a floor with the front opened to him. This is the reason that the prayer mats come from Morocco and other Muslim nations. When he puts his feet on the ground (as is required by Islam), then he cleans himself from any unclean thing, like cigarettes or chewing gum. After this, he rises to his knees and spreads his palms, and then starts to knead the prayer mat. It is believed that this procedure helps to purify his soul and mind.

Prayer rugs can be found in a huge range of sizes. The larger ones are often imported from Asia and are often very thick. Smaller prayer rugs, also made of cotton, can be bought easily from most good second-hand stores, although the cheaper imitations are sometimes not so good. However, the more expensive ones usually have a built-in machine inside that cuts the material used for making them. There are different grades of quality, ranging from cheap to good enough.
