"Here comes Peter Cotton Tail..." (you know the rest)—yes, it's almost Easter, and, if you haven't planned your Easter meal yet, no need to panic. Here is a sample menu, and tips, for your table to make it a success! Let's start with your table.
Your table doesn't need to be expensive (or even in the best shape), simply start with a tablecloth. A pastel color, such as pink or lavender, sets the tone. It's spring, and these colors are thought of as light, airy, and absolutely fit the Easter theme. Now put out your place settings, and, it matters not whether it's your best china or disposable items you purchased at a grocery or party store. The most important parts of your tablescape are fresh flowers. Yes, REALLY!
Flowers change the look of your table.

Let's take a look at the example above: the tablescape above is very plain, however, with the addition of some flowers, greens and fruit, it becomes interesting, appealing, and festive! And, you don't have to spend a fortune. If you don't have flowers growing in your garden, most supermarkets now carry flowers, and, unlike Valentine's Day, the prices aren't inflated. You should be able to find a very acceptable bouquet reasonably priced. For example, at one my local supermarkets, ShopRite, a dozen mixed roses is $12.99, making it accessible to most budgets. To make it feel more like Easter, surround the flower vase (or container you are using) with Easter eggs!
Easter brunch is a great (less expensive) alternative.

If your Easter budget is a bit tight, but you still wish to host an Easter meal for your family or friends, why not have an Easter brunch. It gives you the entire day to spend together, without breaking the bank. Here is a sample menu:
- Croissants with butter, and jam
- Juice (such as cranberry, orange or tomato)
- Fresh fruit
- Scrambled eggs
- Ham, bacon, or sausage
- Hash browns
- Coffee and Tea
This is arguably, a filing meal, and it won't break the bank. Furthermore, it's easy to make, and, the clean-up will be fast.
And Now, for the Good Stuff

Chocolate! Few things are as closely associated with Easter as chocolate! While you can absolutely give the kiddies chocolate Easter bunnies, adults might enjoy something a bit more sophisticated such as truffles, or chocolate squares filled with chocolate ganache. This isn't to say chocolate Easter bunnies wouldn't be enjoyed by the adults, but, in all honesty they will make much better party favors that your guests can take home with them. Best of all... No other dessert will be required! Chocolate is king for Easter!
Easter Egg Hunt Time

For most families (that have small children) the highlight of the day is the Easter egg hunt. Whether you have your Easter egg hunt before your meal or after it, a fun time can be had by all. However, have you ever thought of having an adult Easter egg hunt? You can certainly still fill those plastic eggs with candy (who isn't going to love it), but, if you have a more generous budget, you can up the stakes a bit... Put a $10 or $25 gift card as the grand prize, and, see how your guests get into the game quickly!

Thinking of buying the child or children in your life a live bunny, or chick, for Easter? In a word, don't! Each Easter, countless bunnies and baby chicks are bought with the best of intentions only to end up at shelters and worse. It is far better for everyone (including those adorable creatures) if plush animals are given instead. (Getting off my soapbox now.)
Finally, remember that no matter what your budget, Easter (like most other holidays) is about enjoying your friends and family. So, do your best to push aside all those petty things families and friends may disagree upon, and, simply enjoy the day, and each other's company.
Have a happy and safe Easter!
