Taking trips are usually expensive, especially getting out of the state or country. Just the flight and booking a room for a few nights will drain your wallet. That's why many of us must save a lot of money, before we can spend it elsewhere!

But I know, saving money these days is so tough. However, it doesn't have to be a struggle to save a few bucks, in order to spend it all on your trip. There are numerous ways to save money, and the majority of them do not involve actually putting away the cash.

So, if you have a trip coming up soon, and need the cash for it, consider using any of these life hacks to save money the easy way. Trust me, when it's time to go on your trip, your pockets will be filled with extra cash to spend on your travels.

Make coffee at home, rather than buying.

For those who work early in the mornings and need a boost of energy from the delicious, hot, dark coffee that we praise each and every day... Simply make it at home. Many people actually go out of their way to buy coffee in the mornings. But wouldn't it be better to just brew our own, right at home?

You can simply buy a coffee machine, such as the Keurig, Nespresso, Vertuo, etc., and brew your own coffee. Don't waste money on constantly buying disposable coffee traveling cups, when you can buy a washable thermos and always use that.

Turn off the lights in rooms you aren’t using.

This is a major one among the life hacks to save money—always turn off the lights behind you! I know people who turn on every light in the house the minute they return home... for no reason.

When you aren't using a room, the lights in that room shouldn't be on. It makes zero sense to keep them on, unless there's a specific reason. To save money from harsh electricity bills, shut off each light in rooms you aren't using. This goes for the TV, too. If you aren't watching TV, you might as well shut it off.

Rent movies and books at your local library.

Many people don't know this, but your local library can save you a ton of money. Instead of going out to buy books and movies, you can easily rent them, right from your library. Both movies, DVDs, and novels are expensive, depending on when they were released.

Instead of dropping $20, or more, on a single book, consider taking a trip to your local library, and getting the book from there. Libraries usually give you a decent time period to use the book or movie, before you have to return it. But if you happen to keep the movie longer than assigned, you only pay a very small fee for it. This is also among the top hacks for saving money.

Eat out less.

Yes, this is a tough one to do. If you're like me, you love to eat at restaurants. Sometimes, I even go out to eat three times a week. Horrible, I know. All that money going to waste when I have food right at home.

As one of the best life hacks to save money, eat at home. Try to eat at home as much as possible, because constantly going out to eat isn't putting money into your wallet.

Have get-togethers at home, rather than going out.

Spending $50 on alcohol in the city is definitely not helping when you're trying to save money. Restaurants, clubs, bars, lounges, all those places are eating our money up, and we can't help it, because they always offer great times.

However, I guarantee you can have a better time at either your home or a friend's home with all of your friends together. Buy a bottle or two, make home cooked meals, and even watch TV. Nights like these are the best because you're around good company; nothing is better than that.

Start saving coupons and shop at the sale's rack.

Coupons are the best. No, coupons are amazing. You know how much money you can save if you use coupons for almost anything you buy? Lots. When it comes to grocery shopping, drugstore shopping, and even for clothes, using coupons can save you a lot of money.

You know what else is among the life hacks to save money? Shopping at the sale's rack. Clothes that are on sale are usually marked down a lot. And often times, the clothing is very stylish.

So, instead of paying full price on pieces of clothing, you can still buy fashionable clothing, right off the sale's rack. This is also a very clever way to spend less money this month!

Get your hands on a water filter.

Buying a water filter is definitely one of the best life hacks to save money you should consider. Rather than constantly paying for water gallons or water bottles every week or two, hook up a water filter to your sink, and you'll constantly get fresh, clean water every time. You won't need to buy gallons or bottles of water anymore.

Also, buy a washable water bottle for on the go. Instead of using plastic water bottles that aren't healthy to constantly refill, buy a washable water bottle and fill it with water from your water filter! It's a win-win situation here.

Repair Over Buying

When something breaks, people automatically assume that it's permanently broken. Most of the time, it isn't. There are always ways to fix objects, so you don't have to buy another one. Out of the life hacks to save money, this is important to acknowledge.

Aside from completely destroying your phone, if the leg of a chair breaks, there's a way to fix it. What about a hole is a piece of clothing? You can easily stitch that up, or someone else who's familiar with stitching could. Never assume that something is permanently broken, because there are usually solutions to those problems.

Exercise at home.

Don't continue to spend a monthly membership fee at the gym, when there can be days that you haven't returned. Most of the time, you don't even have to use the workout machines provided at the gym to stay fit. In this case, it's best that you work out right at home.

From the more useful life hacks to save money, working out at home can save you tons of money. Rather than paying a monthly fee, you can do great workouts that don't require machines. From push-ups to sit-ups, crunches, and planks, all of these workouts can still tone up your body, without paying a cent!

Carpool!

Lastly among the life hacks to save money, carpooling can be beneficial for not only you, but everyone involved. If you and your coworkers live near each other, there shouldn't be a reason not to carpool to work on the weekdays. Not only does this save money, but you and your coworkers can alternate driving.

This goes for driving to school, too. You and your friends can alternate driving every day, instead of driving solo and paying for gas once every week or two.
