How to Use ImportExportTools NG?

The main use of ImportExportTools Ng is for importing and exporting Thunderbird emails. We will go through both scenarios one at a time.

I. Use ImportExportTools NG to import Thunderbird emails

Before starting the method, know that you cannot import the MBOX file directly into an IMAP account. So, make sure to select either the POP account or the Local Folders and then follow the given steps:

  1. Start by going to Tools | ImportExport Tools | Import MBOX file.
  2. You will see a dialog box named "Files mbox import", select the option according to your priority, and click OK.
  3. Select the MBOX file from your computer that you want to import using ImportExportTools NG add-on.
  4. Your file has been successfully imported at last.

II. Use ImportExportTools NG to export Thunderbird emails

By default, Mozilla Thunderbird stores all emails in MBOX format. So, we will showcase exactly how to do that first.

  1. Select the mailbox folder you want to export like inbox, sent, etc.
  2. Right-click on it and select ImportExportTools NG | Export folder
  3. Select the location where you want to export the file and click the Select folder button.
  4. The process is complete.

For exporting all the mailbox folders of an email account at once, right-click on the email account name, and select ImportExportTools NG | Export all the folders (with structure).

Another use of ImportExportTools NG add-on is to export Thunderbird emails to other formats like EML, PDF, HTML, and TXT.

  1. Select the email messages that you want to export using ImportExportTools NG.
  2. Right-click on any of the selected messages and hit Save selected messages.
  3. You will get a list of options to save the messages. Simply select the format as per your choice.
  4. Set the location where you want to save the selected emails and click on Select folder button.
  5. The process is complete.

Important Note: ImportExportTools users have time and time again asked for PST format as one of the supported formats. Since ImportExportTools NG do not support it, you will need to see other methods to convert MBOX to PST from Thunderbird account without using ImportExportTools NG add-on.

Conclusion

ImportExportTools NG is a free Thunderbird extension that helps users import and export mail messages with attachments. In this write-up, we explained how you can install and use ImportExportTools NG add-on in Thunderbird to carry out import and export tasks. Hopefully, it will help you in your workflow.
