A luxury apartment is a living space with everything you could ever want. They are spacious and usually found in premium neighbourhoods. Luxury apartments come with top-of-the-line housewares, appliances, parking – sometimes valet parking – fitness centres, spas, large pools and movie theatres.

1. Why should you choose a luxury apartment?

Needless to say, luxury apartments can cost you an unbelievable amount of money, but there's a reason for that. Apartments that fall into the luxury category are well maintained and taken care of. They come with a lot of amenities and usually are up to date with modern times. They are situated in premium locations; for example, apartments like Cinnamon Life Colombo are located in Colombo with many Colombo hotels within sight. If you are living in an apartment of this sort, all the facilities are going to be within your reach, which will save you time and effort.

2. Set your budget

Just like with everything else, you need to set a budget. These apartments are pretty expensive and you, of course, can afford it, but you should come up with a budget. Most luxury apartments come with basic furniture, or you may also be able to find empty ones. Whatever it is that you find, if it doesn't yield to your expectations, you are going to have to rethink your budget and your price range.

3. Non-negotiables

You have things that you can compromise on, and there are things you cannot compromise on. This is why you need to come up with the list of non-negotiables. Apartment hunting will get a lot easier if you know what exactly you need. When drafting a list of non-negotiables, think about natural light, square footage, pets, the number of bedrooms, floors, closet space and outdoor space. You should also think about kitchen essentials, bathroom essentials and other amenities like laundry facilities, elevators, parking and air-conditioning.

4. The neighbourhood

Considering you are looking for a luxury apartment, you can rest easy knowing that it's going to be in a decent neighbourhood. But you need to think about distance to work, grocery stores, nearby parks and restaurants.

5. Make a spreadsheet

Apartment hunting can be pretty overwhelming. You are going to have a lot of tabs open on your browser, and it's going to be a little too much. What you can do to stay sane when hunting the perfect luxury apartment for your and family is to stay organised. Creating a spreadsheet with all the information is going to take a load off your mind.

6. Study the details

Your real estate agent is going to tell everything you want to hear in order to make you invest in the apartment, but you need to be smart about this. Before making the investment, you need to visit the apartment a few times. When you visit in the morning, you can get a pretty good idea about the traffic situation in the area. If you visit the apartment at noon, you can see the amount of natural light that flows into the apartment, and if you decide to visit in the evening, you can get a good understanding of the level of noise you have to put up with.

It's a luxury apartment, and you won't have to worry about a lot of these things, but it's better to know for sure.

7. Moving in

Finding the right apartment and making the investment is only half the battle, the next half is the moving out and the moving in. Presumably, you have a good understanding of the furniture you need for your new apartment, if you have them already, you don't have to shop, but if you don't, you need to set aside some time for buying the right furniture. You also need to get in touch with professional movers and decide on the time and the date. All this is going to take a considerable amount of time. Keep in mind that in-between the moment you buy the apartment and the moment you actually move in is a tedious process.
