With everything that's going on in the world with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is of utmost importance that you pay particular attention to keeping your apartment clean in order to keep your loved ones safe. Wondering about how you can keep your family safe can be stressful during this critical time. Here's are some tips to guide you in keeping your apartment disinfected and virus-free!

Purchase the right disinfecting supplies

You're probably living in one of the apartments in Colombo located in an apartment building such as TRI-ZEN. Even though these apartments are cleaned almost every day, the clean freak in you may not rest until the apartment is given a thorough clean by yourself. When it comes to making sure that the apartment isn't contaminated with corona or any sort of virus, you will have to use a particular set of disinfectants. So, if you're using any disinfectant wipes or sprays, it should contain at least 70 percent alcohol in them to have an effect on a virus-bound surface. Disinfectants such as Lysol and Clorox found in Sri Lanka have proven to be effective in this purpose. When cleaning countertops, sinks, tile floors, and toilets, bleach can be employed; however, you should be mindful enough to not mix it with any other product other than water. Due to its state of being a strong cleaning agent, you should follow proper practices when using bleach – wearing gloves, a mask, and using it in a ventilated area would be safety measures when dealing with bleach. Soap and hot water will work to remove any traces of Coronavirus as well.

Wash your hands frequently

Although it may sound like an obvious thing to do during a time when the world – and your neighbourhood – is hit by a pandemic, washing your hands is something we all take for granted at times. Washing and disinfecting your hands, even though you've been home all day, is crucial during this period. It's more important now more than ever to make use of these healthy habits that you learned in kindergarten; to wash hands after you cough, sneeze, or use the toilet. Moreover, it is important to disinfect your hands after doing laundry or dishes as well. Therefore, it wouldn't help if one doesn't wash your hands even after the whole apartment has been disinfected, as mucus or small droplets can transfer to the surfaces in your apartment via your hands. Washing hand matters when it comes to keeping your apartment disinfected.

Always clean household items

Sounds like a chore? Well, it's a small price you have to pay if you want to stay confident about cleaning your family safe and well-away from COVID-19. If you're not someone who frequently cleaned your apartment before the Coronavirus, now is the time to get into action. Your smartphones and tablets may be the ones that keep you safe during quarantine, but they also have the risk of carrying viruses. In fact, the latest research findings have revealed that the COVID-19 virus can survive on smartphone screens for 28 days. Therefore, if you don't disinfect your smartphone screens constantly, there's no point in washing your hands as well. Some other places that you should focus on when cleaning are the handles, doorknobs, and light switches in your apartment; these have to be cleaned at least once daily as they are the places that are often touched once you come home after being in a public place, that may have been exposed to the virus.

Handle packages the right way

Coronavirus can live on surfaces for a long time and depending on the type of surface, the duration may vary. Since no one can be quite sure about how long the virus can stay alive on a particular surface, it would be prudent to employ proper precautions before you bring packages inside the house that you receive from the online shopping you have done. You can either let it sit under direct sunlight or wipe it down with disinfectant wipes. Don't forget to wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds after you handle these packages.
