It's the holidays and that time of year where you have to run around looking for a gift for that someone that is unbearably hard to buy for. I've been stuck with this task year after year and it's terrible because I always get them last minute things. I'm not going to give you an easy way out like you're probably expecting me to do but I will give you some tips.

Are you buying for someone that doesn't really have hobbies or interests? These people are the worse but yet they're so important to us in our lives. They're the dependable people in our lives because they don't really have anything else to do. If they did they'd be easy to shop for. They are heroes in boring clothing and don't ever ask for anything.

One of the problems is that you know they're not going to like a ton of the things you're thinking of buying them. So you're going to scour the internet for top things to buy a guy or girl at such and such age point. All those suggestions will be generic and all the same. Each top 10 will point out the same products over and over again.

Sometimes you've found something for the person you're looking to shop for but you already got them the same thing the previous year or they probably got it from someone else. Your options are starting to dwindle.

What you need to do is think like them. In this case these, more often than not these people are super practical people. You have to think of what people do in their everyday lives. What are things that you do everyday?

I don't know about you but one of the biggest things you do everyday is sleep. Think of something that you can get them for sleeping because how often do we think of buying new pillows or blankets or sheets etc. They have some pretty fancy ones nowadays and they range at all prices. You could get hilarious or meaningful pillowcases, or blankets. The sky's the limit.

Look at what they do in their everyday life. What is it that they do for work? Maybe you can make their workday that much easier with something like a refrigerated thermos or Fitbit to tell how active they've been. There's a growing amount of gadgets out there that try to help out with our daily lives. Looking at a top 10 list will only get you generic gadgets. You have to be a little creative. In order to get something unique start thinking up of fake gadgets that you think would be amazing if they made it. More often than not these gadgets have already been invented. If not, you just might have a million dollar invention that you need to patent!

Everyday things could also include things like driving, the washroom (for various reasons), and even the way they watch movies or read books. Look at what your person of interest does in their everyday lives.

You'll also have to inspect their living space. Maybe you'll be able to help organize some of their clutter or you'll notice that they've been collecting something. Whatever it may be you really have to start observing. It's the little things that may make a difference when getting your gift. In the end, I truly believe they'll appreciate your attention to detail.

The old adage goes, it's the thought that counts. With you doing this reconnaissance work, you're proving that you did take the time to think of them. You're actually thinking of them for all this time to get them the perfect gift. Anyone is able to appreciate this fact and understand the hard work that it took to get them this present. Don't give up! The perfect gift is out there!
