Daily Habits to Improve Our Happiness

Changing our daily habits can change our life.

By Amra BeganovichPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

JLO emphasized to Oprah in her interview that she is very particular about her thoughts. It is her thoughts that impact her daily actions, she says. Those actions then accumulate to become results, and it is persistent analysis of our thoughts and habits that allow us to improve our life and increase those actions that are most favorable towards our well being. By training our thoughts, we can see changes in our ability to realize our dreams. Opposite also holds true – perpetual focus on negative feelings and poor habits will impact our wellbeing in negative ways.

It is our daily routines influence our minds consciously and subconsciously. If our everyday life is void of joy, small changes in our daily regimen can have a remarkable impact on our mood. Below, I am including seven daily habits that improve happiness.

1. Spending time in nature

We may think we are at home with our artificial lifestyle, surrounded by concrete, metal, and technology. However, humans have a subconscious yearning for nature and the outdoors. When we don’t spend enough time in the open, we feel heavy-hearted and gloomy. Taking a trip to the garden or the local park can immediately boost our mood and brighten the rest of our day.

2. Following social media in moderation

Social media is a handy tool to stay in touch with friends and the latest ongoing in the world. However, people who spend most of their free time on social media are much more likely to develop depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. This is because social media makes us feel that everyone is living a life better than us when it’s not true. If we want to stay happy, using social media once or twice a day should be enough.

3. Doing a random act of kindness

It is a great blessing to be able to help someone, and it can be great for the mood too. There are many people in this world less fortunate than us and rely on the kindness of others. By doing a random act of kindness every day, we aren’t helping them as much as we are helping ourselves.

4. Smiling often

While many of us may see smiling as a reaction to positive thought, things also work the other way round. When we smile, our brain gets trigger to release dopamine. This chemical makes us feel happy for no apparent reason.

5. Exercising daily

This is no secret: if our body is happy, our mind will be too. A good exercise routine can be anything, from spending time in the gym to simply going for a brisk walk. Exercise also causes positive changes in our appearance, which boosts our confidence and makes us happier.

6. Keeping the phone away from bed

When we go to bed, it’s the perfect time for us to reflect on our thoughts or chat with our partners. Spending that peaceful time on the phone not only serves to rot our minds, but the screen’s light also disturbs our sleep pattern. Having the phone nearby also makes us prone to constantly checking it out during the night. For the best use of bedtime, we should keep the phone far from us.

7. Sleeping well

When we don’t sleep well during the night, we feel tired, distracted, fatigued, and frustrated throughout the day. If we want to perform well during the day, it’s evident that we need quality sleep. To ensure beauty sleep, we should minimize bedtime distractions, use blue-screen filters on phones, minimize daily caffeine intake, and keep the room dark and cool at night.
