Making Pro Instagram Reels

In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore everything you need to know about Instagram Reels, which is Instagram's response to TikTok's shorter videos. We'll cover how to create Instagram Reels, including uploading and using your videos, as well as providing tips and tricks to boost your views. Additionally, I'll share my top video editing apps and tools for both iPhone and Android, all aimed at helping you achieve better results.

Let's begin by comparing Instagram Reels with Instagram Stories. While Stories are limited to 15 seconds and vanish after 24 hours, Reels are vertical videos that can be up to 60 seconds long and won't disappear. This means you can create content that has a lasting impact and value beyond a single day.

To make the most of Reels, it's important to create videos in portrait format. Comparing Reels to TikTok, they are quite similar. TikTok currently supports videos up to three minutes long, whereas Reels are limited to 60 seconds. However, both platforms offer a range of effects, filters, and music options to create engaging and binge-worthy videos.

Now, let's get into the two main ways of creating Reels. The first option is to use the Instagram app itself. You can access Reels by swiping from the left and selecting "Reels" from the camera options at the bottom. Alternatively, you can use the "+" button, choose "Reels" from the bottom, or directly access it from the dedicated Reels button in the middle.

Once in the Reels section, you can set your video length to 15, 30, or 60 seconds. Even if you choose 60 seconds and your video is shorter, Instagram will automatically crop it. Adding music is also possible, and you can match your recording to the selected music. The app provides various speed options, allowing you to create slow-motion effects or perfectly timed videos.

In addition to music, you have access to filters, effects, and touch-up tools. The Record button allows you to start and stop recording with either a tap or a tap-and-hold. After recording, you can preview your clips, trim or delete sections, and make necessary adjustments. Once you're happy with your creation, you can add text, stickers, GIFs, effects, music, and more before posting or saving it as a draft.

The second option for creating Reels involves using third-party apps for both filming and editing. One recommended app for filming is Filmic Pro, offering advanced controls and higher quality footage compared to the built-in Instagram camera. For editing, VN Video Editor and Capcut are user-friendly options that still pack in a lot of features.

If you opt for third-party apps, you'll shoot your videos in separate clips or one continuous clip, then edit them together in the editing app. Editing apps give you more control, such as cutting, trimming, adjusting speed, applying filters, and adding transitions. To take your videos even further, you can use services like Placeit for video animations and intros, as well as Storyblocks for stock footage.

Once you finish editing your video, double-check for any unwanted watermarks or branding before exporting it. Then, you can select the video from your phone's gallery in the Instagram Reels section, add music and effects if necessary, and finalize your post.

Using third-party apps allows you to get creative and achieve higher-quality videos, all while incorporating Instagram Reels' features for engaging content. Whether you choose the built-in app or third-party tools, you now have the knowledge to create fantastic Instagram Reels.
