You hear it every week T.G.I.F. ( thank God it's Friday). Often we spend our time waiting for the weekend. Day dreaming about our plans and straying further away from the day in front of you. Clock watching at work for the end of the day and especially the end of the week. On average we spend about 39.2% of our lives at work. We also spend about 29% sleeping. So if you think about it about 70% percent of our time here on this planet is spent engaged in survival mechanisms. Not to mention the 67 minute average per day we dedicated to eating. So to discount the almost 40% of our lives at work to survival until the time clock rings or the calendar changes is to negate the better part of our existence to the "have to's" instead of our desires. That is why it is said to do something you love and you are passionate about and you will never work a day in your life. Not always applicable in every circumstance because for most your work is a means to an end. So if it is just a tool make it the shiniest tool in the toolbox. Everything in life boils down to mindset. How you think and feel about any subject in your life is what gives definition to the journey. It is your thoughts that define excitement, passion, fun, fulfillment, success or engagement to any area of your life, including work. So you can shift gears and develop a mindset that may turn the mundane and repetitious into the creative and the story board to your journey.

So instead of counting the minutes or the days, fill them with your own brand of fulfillment. Be creative, think about how in your mind you can ignite your days instead of trying to extinguish them chasing after a future time where you can find happiness and relief. The truth is that being happy is not something you find outside yourself. It is a commitment and promise you make with yourself every morning you wake up, regardless of what is happening in the world around you. There are many things that bring us temporary joy but lasting happiness is an inside job. You may not find joy in all you do as an occupation but happiness is a choice not a result. Remember the old song/saying "whistle while you work" that is a direct declaration that what you are doing may not be fun but you bring the joy to the task. The task will bring you joy on payday.

Making the necessary a source of mental fulfillment is a science in mindset. How you think and feel about any situation is entirely up to you. Whether you are vacationing on a beach or sitting in your office with phones ringing off the hook the manner in which you respond is your choice. The energy and effort you put into any situation will dictate the outcome. If you wake up everyday in dread because it is Monday or Tuesday you will find the experiences to be in reaction. If you wake up in gratitude for the new day and all it will entail, then the day is a creation in which you are the artisan. The catalyst to this is to stay mindful and live in the present. When you are stuck in stress or fear of what may happen in the future you are giving away your power to steer your life in the direction you choose. The day to day becomes a reaction to what unfolds before you. You will find yourself late or in a hurry. In avoidance of situations because you have a fear of a certain outcome. Your day can become made up of all the unwanted situations your focus is placed on because your thinking and feeling about those things you don't want. You run out the door in the morning for work and all you can think about is "I don't want to be late...I don't want to be late" and then you find yourself stuck in traffic or behind an accident.

The flip side is being mindful of how you think and feel on a regular basis. When you awake in gratitude and live in the moment and you are in not in mental apprehension of a preconceived notion of the outcome; then you are in creation of your life not response to it. Get excited about how the day will unfold before you. See the day in your mind in its optimal form. Feel gratitude for it as if it were already part of your reality. Life is not something that happens to you. It responds to you and mirrors back the same thoughts and feelings you put out.

Do not look towards the future to make today an easier road to travel. Look and create the beauty in the day and then tomorrow. Then the day after that, and the day after that. Then you will be able to look back and feel a life of happiness and creation. Not one of stressful days overcome and regret. Living for the day is the best way to create the future you want not chase after a promise of days to catch your breath. You should feel as excited about Monday as you do to the end of the day Friday.
