What is a Modular kitchen?

A Modular kitchen consist of shelves, tall units, small drawers, countertops and cabinets. They can be arranged in such a way that saves a lot of space as well give your home a chic and an elegant look. Such kitchens are suitable for homes that have minimal space. These kitchens suit all types of homes.

A modular kitchen are ready to install modules which are easy to transport and can also be assembled on site.

These kitchens also have different sections to keep different things like cutlery, pots and pans, spoons and spatulas. There are different sections to store your fruits, vegetables and masalas.

There are different types of layouts as well as different materials you can choose from depending on your needs – like kitchen space, budget, etc.

• L-Shaped kitchen - An 'L' shaped kitchen, is where the countertop resembles an 'L'.

This kitchen layout is ideal for smaller homes. It makes use of maximum space available.

• Parallel shaped kitchen - The workspaces face each other. It’s the most efficient layout.

• G- shaped or Peninsula – G- shaped kitchens are similar to Island kitchens. Peninsula kitchens provide a secondary counter space but unlike island kitchens they are connected to the main workspace making it accessible from all the sides.

These type of kitchens are considered for smaller kitchens as it utilizes less floor space.

• Island kitchen – Island kitchens are suitable for big homes as they require a lot of space. It combines either a ‘L’ shaped layout or a straight layout. It has a counterspace that’s not connected to the kitchen.

Types of Material :

• Wood – Wood has an extremely high aesthetic appeal. It comes in different shades which suits all kinds of color schemes and gives your house an elegant look. It is strong and last-lasting but when it is exposed to moisture it may get damaged but sanding and polishing will bring back it’s shine.

• Stainless Steel – Stainless Steel is highly durable and it can last for a long time. It becomes very easy to clean and also it uses minimal space and gives you ample storage. You don’t get to choose designs or colours like any other material .

A lot of care needs to be taken as it is prone to scratches , fingerprints and smudges. If a lot of force is applied it can cause dents to appear.

• PVC (polyvinyl chloride) – There are two different types of PVC – Hollow boards and Foam. Both have their own perks – hollow boards are hollow from inside making it light weight and economical whereas Foam boards are thicker making them sturdier. They don’t require any type of finishing and they are available in a variety of colours. They are not very durable and also not a good investment as it gets damaged quickly.

• Plywood – Plywood is the most popular material used for making cabinets. It’s also durable, cost efficient and can with-stand heavy weight. Boiling water proof plywood is the best as it is resistant to water and it doesn’t rot in the long run. It can be cut into any shape or it can be given any pattern. It can also be laminated for a smooth finish.

There are also different types of finishes like PU finish, laminate, etc you can choose from depending on your budget.

The price varies for different layouts and materials and it also depends on your spaces , requirements and quality of material.
